I was on my dads car traders policy from 17 - 23. Had a Astra GTE, Peugeot 405 Mi16 and XR2i, and a great time all in all. I now have 2 kids and basically drive a small diesel bus that runs on veggie oil. How times change!

You could do worse than one of these...

How much did that cost u?
#5
£1,300? I'd walk instead :) Shop around and haggle with the insurers.

The car or the insurance? The car (I didn't have one of those, I had a 1990 Escort Popluar Plus that I 'pimped' to look like a RS Turbo. That cost me £800. The insurance was around £200 (this was in 1997 however). I worked my nuts off in Tesco to afford that.

We live in a stupid world where you have to spend nearly 3 times the cars value just to get insured. What's the penalty these days for driving uninsured. It used to be a £150 fine....sounds much more cost effective to me!

wtf £1300???

Thats amazingly good. Every car I tried to insure came up over £3000.
banned#15
mate, try and get a damaged repaired car, as you get a more better car for such little money.
And nobody will know.
I did it, and it was a top first car.

No not bought a car yet. Its 1998. how much would u sell it for?
#21
have you tried hara hill wason for a quote, they specialise in young drivers and are usually the best
#22
why dont you do your pass plus first, then it knocks off loads of money on insurance. i saved 50% on mine (fully comp, first year of insuring... at 17 years old) .

yeh i was quoted £1600 fully comp on a old L reg fiesta. But i waited 2 weeks and did my pass plus first then got it and it was just under £800 for fully comp. This was nearly 6 years ago now tho.

not always so don't get your hopes up ;-) they may just knock off £100

as to paying in instalments, you won't get a credit agreement until you're 18
#30
whatever you decide, make sure you're a named driver and earn no claim discount.
#31
didnt think u could get ncb as a named driver

you can as a "named driver" with direct line, but what I meant to say was basically... get a policy in your name, you'll regret it in a few years if you dont.
