I need a netbook just to browse the web but I want it powerful enough please, any ideas which ones i should buy I guess a 1.6ghz is the minimum I want, and I think a proper hard drive too.

Must be able to display all web pages perfectly.

Battery lifetime is not important

price anywhere upto £170

why wouldn't they display youtube videos?

All netbooks play youtube videos except the via C7 ones which can be somewhat marginal and which are rather rare anyway. Oh, and the CPU clockspeed is pretty meaningless as there aren't more than one or two models of any particular design.

You may be thinking of the arm-based 7" machines from places like maplin which don't support youtube but they're just overgrown mobile phones not netbooks and won't run most things, let alone flash.

Hard drives are bad. They're heavier, noisier, use more power and are arguably less durable. The only reason to go for one is because of their capacity.

Basically for what you want it's a case of take your pick, they'll all do what you're asking. I'm sure someone who's following the prices can point out some good value ones at the moment though.

I can highly recommend the samsung n130, they are about £209 though so a bit over your price range at the minute but chances are they will drop some more, but performance is great, Crystal clear display, 160gb hard drive, nippy enough processor (Intel Atom N270) 1GB Ram (easily upgraded to 2GB), battery life although is not important to you is 7 hours running Windows 7 (which is smooth and fast).

yep going to do that tonight when i get a few model numbers to look at.

Well a lot of the attention is on the more expensive ones (which is annoying) but in that category Asus, Lenovo, HP and Toshiba seem to get good reviews.

Anyone know how this compar to the Samsung NC10

NC 10 has more features and longer battery. I have a N130 and still haven't received the £20 cashback yet after 5-6 weeks (should have arrived within 28 days as claimed) so beware. All-in-all I would have choose a NC10 if given the choice again. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with N130 other than the sound being too too too low.
