Me, the missus and kids (ages 8 and 5) are looking to do the Disney thing for a week in April. Probably won't bother with Universal or SeaWorld this time as I think the kids would be more excited by the Disney experience.

Where would you recommend staying, on a budget. Have thought about the budget Disney hotels but not sure. Stayed at International Drive years ago. Have even thought about hiring a villa. What do you think/recommend.

And where would you book. Expedia do 8% on Topcashback.

Many thanks.

Checkout http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/index.php

There's loads of private Villa's listed and advertised there (Villas Rentals Section), as well as sections on hotels an accommodation in and around Disney.

We been 4 times now, stayed 3 times in different hotels on International Drive which were nice but after our recent trip we realised that International Drive is very touristy and noisy. In April 2008 we stayed on Palm Parkway in Lake Buena Vista and it was fantastic, the hotel we stayed at was Hawthorn Suites and it had a kitchen with lounge & tv and then a separate bedroom with two double beds in it (also with a tv) so it was fab for being able to put the kids to bed and then we could stay up (our girls were 7 & 3), you also got a free buffet breakfast which helps with the pennies. Highly recommend it, but basically any around that area would be fine and it's then only about a 5 minute drive to downtown disney (we walked it a few times or it cost around $7 for a taxi). From there you can either drive on to the parks or get the disney buses which are free. FAR better than being on International Drive and we'd never stop in that area again, LBV is so much quieter and without wishing to sound like a snob (but I probably will) it seems to be a bit more upmarket and classy.

Have a great time, I'm so jealous.

Homewood Suites on International Drive. Fantastic value and at the nice end of Int Drive (nr the Convention Centre). There is another one at the other end of Univ Dr. but it is nowhere near as nice. Trust me - brilliant.

Get a villa if the budget allows.... family will love it. Before we started renting villas we would just fly out there and then just book into wherever we fancied, prices are normally a lot cheaper doing it this way than booking before you go (in saying this it's several years since we last went so maybe others can advise as to whether this is still the case). Enjoy your holiday!
