Looking for advice please ! Kindle / ereader or tablet ???

vraptorchickvraptorchick

Ok I have an android phone with kindle app which I use quite a bit as I love to read, however it's a bit small for permanent storage / reading .. so ... do I buy a kindle / dedicated ereader or would I be better looking for a tablet which is more functional - but - is an actual ereader more advanced than just the app, and can I get a good tablet for the same sort of price as an ereader ??

If I buy a kindle / ereader, which is best ? Or if I choose a tablet, which is the best one to go for ??

All (well most lol) comments / advice gratefully received :-) !

I would defo get a dedicated e-reader since it is easier on the eyes.

It's nothing do with brightness levels. Any backlit tablet will give eye strain after a while if you are reading from it. A Kindle or a any good quality eBook reader (Kobo, Sony etc.) with e-ink technology is not backlit and is designed to reproduce the way paper look and the effect it has on eyes, that is why it is the best electronic reading medium.

OP, get a Kindle or the like and you will not be disappointed.

Depends what you read. If mainly novels - go for e-ink and get a Kindle, Sony or Kobo. If you prefer reading magazines or news articles or shorter reads, then a colour tablet would be better.....

Thanks gari - definitely novels - is there much to choose between different makes / models then ? Apart from the obvious price differences that is !

the major difference, is not so much the device, but the store. Amazon only sells kindle books to the Kindle ereader (or kindle app), and ebooks are usually cheaper on Amazon than elsewhere. Though probably the most popular free ebook website offers its books in epub, which kindle does not support, the kindle store will most likely have the book as well and in the very rare case it doesn't, a popular software called Calibre can convert it for you. Also, there is Amazon's excellent customer care to rely on and they are especially proud of their flagship product. The only thing I feel that might tempt someone to a competitor ereader is the design of the Kobo Touch and the social networking feature of it. Still I believe kindle is the best at the moment. I would actually suggest taking a look at the kindle 3 and 4 in person before you buy one. I bought a refurbished kindle 3 (ridiculously spotless!) even though I was going to get a new kindle 4 free elsewhere (which I am selling).
