The cheapest is free, for a random 0845 number re-directing to a UK landline.

my dad has a deal thru orange with his broadband, he has an 0845 number which is included in his package, he can make free calls on it to landlines, to call him is standard 0845 rate, this is a totally seperate to his normal bt landline,

you can get an 0800 number for free here
http://www.Numbergroup.com

or an 0845 number here for free, im pretty sure u can even get local landline numbers
http://www.sipgate.co.uk/user/index.php

and you going to be using a landline for it to get transferred to or an internet voip phone?
i use these as VOIP calls, (Voice Over Internet Protocol) through my iphone so it comes through directly to me on my mobile.. for free.

yeah sipgate.co.uk is recommended you have virtual number you can pretend your business is in any area of the country you like , the calls come thru your broadband so you dont pay another line rental

you can use call forwarding and voicemail

and its mostly free

if you like this type then skype is the biggest player , they charge more, but you're more likely to keep your number if a company changes its mind

Not sure how competitive their pricing is for 0845 but I've used dm club for a personal number starting 07, which I can divert to any mobile including Irish mobiles for no cost.

JTX - how does dm work?
u register, get a 07 number which u divert to a mobile number, so if and when you get called it gets diverted to your mobile and you dont get chared for receiving the call??

070 numbers cost a horrific amount I thought?
0845 number will cost people on their mobiles and from most landlines (package depending)

Why not just get a generic 03* number assigned to a VOIP/Landline/Mobile number?
Something that will come out of everyone's inclusive bundles/minutes etc.

No you don't get charged, but it does cost the caller more than calling a standard mobile (Charged to the caller at 16.7085/ 9.8465/ 9.8465 / ppm (Weekend/Night/Day) on BT standard tariffs)

Plus you can have it transfer from one phone to another ie if you don't answer phone 1 it goes to phone 2, then phone 3 etc.

i like it.
so if i register, i can dish this number out as my mobile number out to nice blondies instead of giving out my real number.
lol
