any suggestions?

Buying it on a 24 month contract will effectively mean that the extra 6 months you're paying for over an 18 month contact will be half price in comparison (due to the cheaper cost of the handset).

Also, you may be better off going on a more expensive contract for the first 9 months, and then downgrading, as this can be a cheaper way again due to paying out less to begin with.

Yeah, after 9 months you can.

Eg.
A 16GB 3GS on an 18 month £34.26 contract will cost £493.32 for the first 9 months. (£184.98 for the phone + per month)

Take that same phone on an 18 month contract on an £44.05 plan, and it will cost £483.56 for the first 9 months (£87.11 for the phone + per month)

Then pay the remaining 9 months at the £34.26 or £29.38 priced contract.

Only saving a tenner doing this, but you effectively get double minutes for the first 9 months and you have £100 less to shell out up front.

Compare all the contracts and work out what they will all cost you.
