Looking to go into blu-ray!!

I am thinking of getting a blu-ray player. I dont want a ps3 because i have an xbox and you can upgrade this blu ray player as well (link in 2nd post).

Its £169 for it on amazon (i have £10 voucher) so would you people say its worth it for HD movies?

btw i have a sony 32D3000 and it can recieve 1080p signals but it downscales it to 1080i i think. But, its 24p enabled.

Should i bite the bullet and go ahead?

Cheers!! rep given to people who help me decide!

IMHO i think a seperate blu-ray player is best, should the x-box or player fail then at least you don't lose both.

Good idea, cheers

The PS3 was the first BluRay 2.0 player. The software is easy to update unlike a standalone.

indeed. the bluray linked is only a v1.1 so not completely future proof. A version 2.0 player would be ideal.

hey man, you got the exact same tv as me - you've officially got awesome taste

go with the ps3 - your(relatively) future proof then, it's great at upscaling DVD's too - unbelievable mate :)

Also looking to get our first blu ray. Dense question: what does "upscaling" dvds mean?

It upscales normal DVDs to a better picture quality.

Go for it, you won't regret it. I got a standalone player as I'm not into gaming at all so not worth me getting a PS3.
