Absolutely, why do consecutive governments allow these big British companies to be sold off without any stipulations regarding jobs?

Because like every major UK manufacture of the 20th Century most jobs will eventually be moved to Eastern Europe/abroad, harder cheaper workers, hardly rocket science.

You're right we should just give up and sell the lot, our kids will have a bright future then.

I just hope that the takeover from Kraft doesn't change the UK recipe, Cadbury America Produced chocolate is not the same taste as proper British Cadbury, when in the US I check the wrapper before buying it, although usually the price is the giveaway, the stuff exported from the UK is far more expensive.

Rover down the pan, now Cadbury....that's the West Midlands contribution to successful British industry down the pan :(

Don't worry we still have Jaguar and Land Rover...oh wait no we flogged that too.

Nice to see all these British companies being sold to foreign investors so that any profit doesn't find it's way back into our own country.

I'd rather Ferrero gone through with their deal.

I've tried quite a bit of american chocolate, and liked almost none.

We didnt say we had information on a recipe change:??

I don't think the production of Cadbury's will change as it is the reason they are buying it in the first place.

My fear is the production moving elsewhere.

On a positive note maybe Kraft are big enough to stimulate a growth in sales which if production is kept in the UK could be a good thing. Many fear that being taken over by an overseas company usually spells the end of UK production but I wonder if that is generally true or just a myth?

It's probably the same the other way round too, Cadbury's probably isn't Americans favourite choccy. It's what you are used too I assume.

I know Cadbury's sell chocolate in the US that has no resemblence to our Cadbury taste at all.

Absolutely, Cadbury have a factory in the US, Cadbury America chocolate does not taste anything like the Bournville produced. Hershey's are probably the biggest chocolate manufacturer in the US, either that or Masterfoods (Previously Mars Confectionary)

I never said it was good from a Nationalistic point of view.

From a business and bean counting one, utterly invitable considering the upward spiral of British labour/upkeep.

Why is it Japan (albeit still ongoing from a 10year recession) can adapt and develop over the last 50years, but UK had to become disgustingly elitist and go into financial services to make up the fall of manufacturing? Why can germany carry on it's manufacturing?

The bloating, self rightous expectant culture in this country of a significant minority on benefits who do not want to work in a hard grafting minimum wage job, oh but wait, plenty of immigrants do, making THEM evil, hahahahaha.
How many people seem to expect some cushy office job at well above the going rate instead of going on benefits???
#38
Cadbury's chocolate is naff carp, it tastes powdery to me, so no great loss, I never buy it anyway.
#39
Not all US chocolate is bad, only Hershey's really, which is a nasty plasticy nonsense.

But then, don't all countries seem to export only the worst of their own products?

Look at Australia and Fosters/XXXX for example :D
