This is hilarious - no wonder some people were offended! This is the
message that the Maroochydore High School, Queensland, Australia staff
voted unanimously to record on their school telephone answering machine.
This is the actual answering machine message for the school. This came
about because they implemented a policy requiring students and parents to
be responsible for their children's absences and missing homework. The
school and teachers are being sued by parents who want their children's
failing grades changed to passing grades - even though those children were
absent 15-30 times during the semester and did not complete enough school
work to pass their classes.

The outgoing message:

Hello! You have reached the automated answering service of your school. In
order to assist you in connecting to the right staff member, please listen
to all the options before making a selection:

To lie about why your child is absent - Press 1

To make excuses for why your child did not do his work - Press 2

To complain about what we do - Press 3

To swear at staff members - Press 4

To ask why you didn't get information that was already enclosed in our
newsletter and
several flyers mailed to you - Press 5

If you want us to raise your child - Press 6

If you want to reach out and touch, slap or hit someone - Press 7

To request another teacher, for the third time this year - Press 8

To complain about bus transportation - Press 9

To complain about school lunches - Press 0

If you realize this is the real world and your child must be accountable
and responsible for his/her own behaviour, class work, homework and that
it's not the teachers' fault for your child's lack of effort: Hang up and
have a nice day!

If you want this in another language, move to a country that speaks it.

Maroochydore is a small town just north of Brisbane and south of Noosa Heads.

If you ever get the chance to go there, do so. It has beaches to die for. (The schools like to raise their standards and expectations too!)

I used to live in Queensland and miss is so much sometimes it is a really beautiful place
#3
i wonder how many schools here would like to put this on their answering machines
its so true but funny the excuses parents use
#4
I'm sure that would work wonders on some school answering machines here!

What a great message, all school should have the same standards, thats the problem now, you can't say anything in fear of being sued.......More schools and education bodies should be more truthful like this school.
#6
We should have packed up the country and left the criminals and idiots here. Some might argue we already did.

Yeh, I just realised what I said in the 2nd post! I was thinking of Coloundra. Quite possibly the nicest beach I'v ever been to. I flew to Maroochydore from Sydney (missing out completely Brisbane and Surfers Paradise.)

I wonder if the message is still live! Gonna give it a try a bit later. Seems this is pretty kosher. I got sent it in an email - but looking on google its certainly got a presence!

I love the racism over here, saw a sign saying:
Room mate wanted (Will also accept asians).

How is he a racist? He's said he'll even accept them! :w00t: Sounds to me like he's doing his bit for race relations, opening his arms and making it known they needn't be shy in coming forward!

Used to make me laugh when I lived there. Oz playing Pakistan at cricket..... and the headlines in the Sydney Herald would read something like "Aussies smash ****'s for 6"

I could never work out how they could get away with it.

Yeah I know but if something said that in England there would be uproar saying that it's not needed as Asians have to be welcome or it's racist etc.

I do stuff like this, I rang the number off heroes to see if it was real (it wasn't). Free international calls with talk talk = insta-win.

Yup, precisely.

That was the thing that convinced me it was real...... I found loads of links saying the school had the message.
