While out shopping with the family the other weekend at newish shopping centre, we found a small "apple logo" shopping bag with contents that someone had left in the dining area.
I asked around and it didn't belong to anyone. So did the honest thing and took it into the Apple store nearby, after we'd finished eating (where I'd assumed it was purchased from, still in wrapper and with price ticket on).
The floating salesman said no-one's ever handed any found property into to them and checked with manager what to do. Manager just said put it in my office. No thank you for handing it in, or what's your number so we can contact you if it's not claimed.
When I asked what happens to lost property that's not been claimed she simply said "we donate it to charity". Do I believer her? Don't know really, I've just got her word on it. I feel it will it go to member of staff or back on shelf for resale. Would be happier if it did actually go to charity though.
I'm curious, what is the law in this situation? If I'd handed it into police station and it wasn't claimed within 6 months I thought they'd usually return it to the finder.
Value of item was £145!
So if it belonged to you, just go back to "apple store" in Westfield shopping centre to claim it back.
