My sister is at mine (About 50 miles from her house) and cant find her car keys. Not sure if she dropped them coming into house last night or when we went out for a walk. we have turned house upside down, retraced our steps from last night but no joy...Her house keys are in the car. She has no other sets of keys for the car, I dont drive and she has no docs with her...who is she best contacting? her car insurance? She is fully comp, and thinks she has keys covered but not sure! Advice appreciated as we both have toddlers and were just heading to a soft play centre when we dicovered we couldnt find her keys!

How come she doesnt have 2 sets of keys ? All cars should come with at least 2, unless bought 2nd hand & the previous owner has lost a set.

Is she with the AA/RAC ?

Is so, they will be the best bet (they will at least get you into the car if the key are in there ?)

If not, then a dealer will have to either fit new locks, or supply new keys (quite expensive though)

Even if she does has a spare set they will likely be at her house 50 miles away:thumbsup:

AA/RAC will get you in the carif the keys have been locked in, however only a main dealer will be able to supply a proper set (car should be on thgeir records and the relevant codes can be programmed, the problem is they will need to see proof of ownership or at the very least proof that you are the same person who is the registered keeper.

I think programmed keys run at around £100+

Good luck with this hope you find them.

As others have said AA/RAC is the best bet as they will be able to get your Sister in the car.

Is she positive they arent in the bottom of her handbag? Thats where most are found :-D

bummer, I lost mine and didn't have a spare so I contacted my local dealership who ordered me a spare key. Once they got the key they needed the car at the garage to programme the key with the car.

I could have paid for them to come and tow my car away or I could do if myself (which I did). Once I got the key I could open the car doors (but not start the car) so was able to tow it myself.

All in all cost me around £70.

Try a locksmith

Thanks for all replies - we found them eventually in the house - one of the toddlers - not sure who - had hidden them in a drawer in the kitchen!! None of them are admitting to it though!

Just as well as she doesnt have a spare set as she did buy car second hand - new cars are too dear! She is going to look into getting a second set made up now though and can keep them at the inlaws!

Cheers for all the advice - think she has key insurance on her house insurance so she is going to read up to see if it covers keys so she is prepared if it happens again!
