Hope that the buyer doesn't mind driving around with you as the registered keeper...

Other than that, it's a replacement you need.

I looked online the other day, im sure you have to pay a fee but not the full £19 - dont quote me on that though.

It will arrive within 10 days though, i know that much.

Only other thing you can do is get the new owner to apply for a v5 for the car - itll cost them £19, and youll get a letter from the DVLA asking to confirm the sale.
If you plan on doing this though, make sure its T/T'd as the new owner cant tax it while waiting the 6-8 weeks for the v5 to arrive!

The other problem with that is you are trusting the buyer to register it...

They could just drive around in it building up some hefty fines, which you would have to stand for.

I see what you mean.

Im going to have to tip the house upside down to find it then. If i cant find it i guess im going to have to apply for a new one. I would feel a bit crap making somebody else pay the £19 and as you said they can run up fines which im liable for.

Thanks for the help guys.

I will let you know what happens.

Ive sold a car without the log book before - i rang the DVLA before i did so.
To sell a car without it, when its sold you have to write to the dvla with you details, the car details, and the new keepers details - i did this due to not recieving the log book back before i wanted to sell it.
This gives you a month - so any fines picked up etc, you will NOT be charged for. Then, when the logbook arrives you have to send it back with the new owners details.

Guess your case is different though as your not waiting on the return of the logbook.

Ive read the dvla website and it seems you can indeed do that. The v5 is more for ease than anything.
