By law you dont need a receipt, however they can ask for proof of purchace if they wish, this could be a bank statement or credit card statement, if you give them the time and date they can also find the transaction on there system

Q7. Do I have to produce a receipt to claim my rights?
No. In fact the trader doesn't have to give you a receipt in the first place so it would be unfair to say that you had to produce one. However, it might not be unreasonable for the shop to want some proof of purchase, so look to see if you have a cheque stub, bank statement, credit card slip etc., and this should be sufficient

the reciept was probably chucked in the bin thinking it as a grocery reciept
#25
Box it came in will have warranty card in and bar code on , which they should be able to trace, but I expect they went in the bin too?
#26
Sainsburys wont be able to trace a barcode from a warranty card

Looks like you are stuffed then, you may have to pay for the repair if you cannot prove the date/place of purchase.
