Luxury car worth £1.2m clamped outside Harrods

A luxury car valued at £1.2m was clamped outside Harrods in central London after being illegally parked.

The Koenigsegg CCXR and a £350,000 Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce were both clamped on the afternoon of 22 July.

Kensington and Chelsea Council said the light-blue vehicles were in serious contravention of parking rules.

The Knightsbridge store was bought by members of the Qatari royal family in April for £1.5bn.

It was bought by the Qatar Holding group, led by the Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani, from Mohammed Al Fayed.

Both the cars are very rare with the Swedish-made Koenigsegg being one of only six ever made.

'Effective deterrent'

A Harrods spokesman said: "Any matters relating to parking tickets and enforcement are strictly the domain of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea."

The council said £120 penalty charge notices were issued, but the cars were released for £70 each as the fines were paid within 14 days.

A spokesman said: "There is a greater shortage of parking space for residents in Kensington and Chelsea than practically anywhere else in the country.

"At the same time we have a huge number of visiting motorists attracted here by our fine shops, restaurants and other attractions.

"Our priority is our residents. To keep space available for them, we must deter visitors from taking up residents' bays and our experience is that clamping is simply the most effective deterrent."

yeah but i need 4 hours off work to get them....

£70 for the owners was probably easier than finding a proper parking space

I'm a little curious, did they have these cars brought all the way from the Middle East to London just to visit Harrods or did they buy them from here?

Who said the cars were from the Middle East?! The group that bought HARRODS is from the Middle East... that article says nothing about the cars!

wtf are you on about, the article pretty much suggests that that is who the cars were owned by (even in the wealthiest parts of london there wont be many londonors who can afford at 950grand car)

I would think they were tbh, you certainly cant by a Koenigsegg CCXR in britian, dunno bout the lambo

buff cars and I quite like the colours, even if they were pink would you say no to a 350k car? lol

Do we know if these cars are the Harrods owners? I can only assume they are.

I know some Sheiks have their lambos and stuff flown over here to get serviced as its cheaper loool how mad is that.

Are you sure you cant be a Koenigsegg over here Micoo? Surely if you've got the cash there is a dealer? Or have you got to order direct from Sweden?

This is genius, the new owners park their cars outside
1) Harrods got lots of 'free' advertising in the papers and online such as bbc, for next to nothing
2) The car gets parked right outside their shop and as it has a clamp, can't be that easily nicked.

So for 70 quid, they get to park their car(s), and get to advertise their shop.
