Hello All

I will be phoning BT tomorrow for a better deal on my broadband. Anyway if they give my Mac code and I don't use it (as obviously) i don't want to cancel. Will my line get disconnected ?

Thanks!

i think the mac code is used by the new provider to ensure a smooth change over, if you dont give the mac code to a new provider bt should not cut you off .

They expire after x amount of time, and as ding said you won't get disconnected

they expire after 30 days. if they're not used then bt will continue with your broadband

Some ISPs will automatically cancel your connection after the expiry of a requested mac code so I suggest you check with your ISP before you leave it in their hands.

I used to work in BT Broadband retentions, they wont cut you off, the mac code is valid for 30 days.

Instead of asking for the MAC code, just ask them what the best deal thay can give you is. In order for them to give you a better deal you need less than 2 months left on your current contract, you will be enterd into a new contract depending on the deal, some people will offer you 18 month, try and get the 12 month contract if posible.

The best deal when I worked there in January was the Option 3 package for £19.99 plus another free BT home hub, you can also try and get BT vision for free, with no contract, or try and push for the BT hub phone.
