i bought a mini display to vga cable for my macbook pro, i assumed i could just plug it in and it would work fine, but at first i couldnt even get my mac to detect the vga monitor, then i updated the firmware for the mini display wire and now it sees the monitor but when on my external screen there is no input? ive been looking for ages for a solution but im still stuck, i tried looking for the latest graphic cards drivers but couldnt find anything on the nvidea site or the apple one, i just paid 20 quid for this cable!

I'm going to ask the obvious but two things:
My monitor has a dual input VGA and DVI and to cycle between the two I have to press the button and power cycle it before it recognises the input.
Perhaps your monitor has something similar?

As for your cable, one end of the vga cable is connected to the monitor the other end is connected to your adapter which is plugged into your macbook pro right?
Then in system preferences under displays mirror mode is on?

not sure what's going on, but trying to find a solution!

Just thought of the obvious, have you tried a different VGA cable?
Its not a driver issue I can safely state that.

Have you tried other monitors and other cables?

If its a MacBook Pro i wouldn't suggest using Mirror Mode as the resolution and screen clarity is pants.

Go to System Prefs and click the displays icon, click the button that says 'detect displays'

I have never had a problem with any external monitor being hooked up to a mac.

I presume you are running at least 10.5.6?

I know the mini display adapters can be a little tempremental, so I would just make sure all your connections are sound. Try turning the monitor on after the Laptop has booted.

Just so we are on the same wave length Adapters Which adapter is it you have (Part Number) and what Model Mac Book Pro
