  Have a look at completed listings on eBay to get an idea of what they are selling for. I have the late 2011 MBP and love it. Super quick machine. I don't think you can go far wrong on the earlier one either.

  I'd say £550 for a 2011 MacBook is a good price and you've still got time to top up the AppleCare for an extra years warranty if you wanted.

  Hows spending £150 more (20%) better for an "upgrade" which add's less than 5% performance increase (Early 2011 vs late 2011) ?!
  
  Same appearance, same screen, same RAM, same keyboard, power supply, graphics. Only difference is clock speed of processor which really is the last thing in a 13" macbook needs updating at the moment.
