Macbook Pro or Sony Vaio FZ Series

Am looking to get one of the two systems. The Macbook is a fair bit more expensive but comes with other extras. Which system would you go for? I would be using XP (or dual boot in the case of Mac).

First thing ill say is this will start a proper battle!! the old Mac v PC thing.

I'd never used a mac till a couple of months ago and bought an Air and i absolutely love it, i hate having to use windows now. The Mac Pro has got a lot more power than mine but i needed the low weight. The only software ive bought for it was Toast and Aperture and Office because it comes with everything else as standard.

So for me it would be the Mac Pro

I am not an Apple Fanboy, but for me, it would be the MAcbook Pro. Although everything in my house is sony. And I have had macs in the past. The reasons for choosing the MacBook Pro are this:

Dual OS with bootcamp works flawlessly, therefore best of both worlds.
Better build quality IMO
Better range of accessories.
Retain resale price amazingly
Much more fashionable, makes a statement :D
Plus I feel HP is better than Sony in Laptops :S

Neither - Sony are vastly overpriced, under spec'ed, and not very good quality, Apple the same, but with shinier cases. I'd rather buy a more powerful machine for less money with a longer warranty from someone else. Dell would be my choice. Acer, HP, too.

Go for the mac, if you end up hating the OS then you can boot into Windows by default and forget that the Mac OS exists.
Plus the keyboard of the Macbook Pro is a joy! lol
If you want a pure Windows machine I would still avoid the Sony, I have a Viao and it has aged horribly.
Ps. if you need any mac software, PM me and I'll try to help you out ;)

A quick q - but how do you use windows effectively with no two button mouse? It's the only thing that puts me off apple notebooks.

I have an external mouse with two buttons (3 if you include a scroll wheel).
You can "right click" a couple of ways. You can either hold a key and click. Or just tap two fingers on the touch pad (which is the much easier way if you have no mouse).
Mac mice do come with 4 buttons now too incase people thought differently but I would avoid them because they are pretty rubbish. Use a mouse designed for Windows even if you just use the Mac OS. I have a Microsoft one.

Yep sounds good. Thanks for the detailed answer! Just a long wait for the Air to drop in price now

Personally I wouldn't buy either, I'd rather have a desktop or a small-sized laptop than a 15" or 17" laptop.

Out of the two brands neither would be my first choice but equally both seem worth considering.

Wireless mighty mouse will work well with the built in bluetooth of the lappy, I wouldnt get an Air as it is overpriced and has no disc drive. Would rather have a Macbook/Pro.

I would definitely consider a HP Laptop as in my experience they are much better than Sony for both warranty build compatibility and software etc.

The only Sony I seemed to like was the SZ series. I feel HP has better screens too but that is down to opinion I guess as Sony is also up there.
