Major Earthquake strikes Haiti

My Earthquake notifications just went off the chart a while ago, about 12 earthquakes in Haiti with a major 7.0 included.
Hopefully there are not many deaths or injuries, but a 7.0 would inflict a lot of damage (Especially in a poor country such as this, with very poorly built buildings) so a lot of lives will be destroyed in some way.
Deaths are feared to be in the thousands at the moment.
Let us pray for the people caught up in it.

That is a huge quake! apparantly Manchester had one on 27th December but it was only 1.5 and very deep in the earth so it wasn't felt by anyone. How do you get these notifications? I'm facinated by anything like this.

I can remember seeing a site a few years ago that showed all seizmic activity around the globe. Hopefully I can trace it.

Bad news indeed....... hopefully not as bad as feared. (Ive not seen any news yet... and just struggled to get into work through yet more snow! Sums up how insignificant that inconvenience is!

I get Email notifications delivered by the US Geological Survey.
I can't remember the link, but if you go on their website you should find it somewhere.
You can also enter the minimum earthquake level of either the world or a chosen country such as the UK.
Good piece of kit :)

Hmmn, maybe now some of them bankers with their million pound bonuses could find a good use for some of their funds. I'm sure it would not be too difficult for them to find a good use after such devastation.
Hope some have a heart.

Yeah or those footballers that get paid £100,000+ a week.
Rich people are usually so selfish and greedy and it's usually the poor people who donate money.

I just took a look at the pictures in the link you posted.
Can't believe how devastated the area is in those pictures.
It really puts things into perspective on how lucky we are to be living in a country that does not have any danger of an earthquake such as this.
God help them all.
