The real reason? They think they can make money out of it.

A better reason, cats are not brilliant at drinking water. They tend to get most of their moisture through eating food. Because of this, dehydration can negatively affect their kidney function. Which is why dry food imho, is a horrible idea.

Us cat ladies were feeding our cats broth long before Gourmet/Purina started making it. Ever so cheap to make too.

Interestingly, it's meat content is much higher than the solid cat food they sell! Shows you what garbage that is.

In all seriousness, homemade soup isn't a bad idea. But I wouldn't bother with this.

My little girl cat is great at drinking water . She will only drink it out of a beer glass though. We call it phoebe's beer

Ah, a good point. I just googled the ingredients. I didn't look at the weight.

Plastic fountains bring out allergies in my cat. He didn't like drinking out it much either.

Yes, he is a bit of a special snowflake :) But I don't mind. Glad it works for you.

Never heard that before, I've had 6 cats over the years and none of them have had problems drinking water, although I did have one who preferred drinking out of the toilet to her water bowl oO

If I remember correctly it's thought they prefer to get moisture from food, because they originate from hot climates where water was more scarce. It's one of the arguments for feeding raw meat and some people think that is decreases urine infections and crystals/cystitis in cats (unproven).

Drinking tons can be a sign of diabetes.

Hehehe, what is it with animals and toilets? :D I caught my previous cat in the toilet once. The look on her face when I saw her X) Current cat wouldn't dream of it, he's not at all fond of the flush.

they also make soup out of cats, allegedly

Cats love it, that's why. My cats always eat the jelly or gravey then leave the meat, they only eat the meat hours later when they get hungry again.

FYI Dave, they make wine for cats and dogs too:

mine are the same - they love the soup - only get it as a treat tho - as with 6 cats it works out very expensive!
