Im assuming for accommodation and security reasons.. Apparently (from another friend on FB) the last trip for the pope to visit US it costed their government $3m for 3 days visit.

Here's an idea.
They should focus on stopping the multi-billion pound illegal and unjust war in Iraq and Afghanistan, and then use that money to improve the country.

I don't want the pope here, or anywhere. Stupid ***head. Can I opt out?
#6
20million? Someone should email him the travellodge offer.
#7
are you lot mad........the pope attracts people from all over the world wherever he visits.

world youth day for example:

WYD08 attracted 223,000 registered pilgrims, including 110,000 from 170 nations making it the largest event ever hosted in Australia.

its a privilege regardless if you are religious or not

Wow.....Obsessed much! :?

Here's another idea, how about addressing the topic raised instead?

£20M is a lot of money, is it well spent? Probably not, but given the number of extremist religious groups around, he needs protection and is an obvious target for these people. Am I bothered at the expense? Nope. I'm not religious, but recognise he is a peaceful symbol and have respect for him for this reason.

I'm quite sure that he brings in revenue when he vists, so its all quite irrelivant.

and remind him of quidco while your at it ............. save him a few £££

I feel that the government should pay no money tco any religious for any reason barfor repairs of historic building such as cathedrals etc etc. So if the pope want come here the catheolic church should pay and they are not a poor organisation anyway.

Please explain why you think the pope is an evil man.

He has a lot of power and people always listen to him all around the world. But his stance on condoms is just stupid. He claims that condoms make the aids epidemic in africa worse. Which is not true. So people in Africa follow this advice which will mean an increase aids infections in africa. Also just how much help instead the church had a policy where it focus on promoting wider access to condoms and spreading information about how best to use them.

maybe we should make the queen and other royal hangers on pay for their security etc while we are at it.

Every sperm is sacred. (Allegedly)

I'm sure there are numerous religions in Africa and I think the Pope would be quite alarmed that he was responsible for AIDS spreading like wildfire. Have you any evidence that supports that more Catholics have it over other religious denominations. I'm quite sure that AIDS isn't any more rife in entirely Catholic countries, but I'm sure you can provide the links that show this is the case.

I have not said that the pope is the only reason for the aids epidemic. Secondly other major religons also don't like condoms and i will also crictise these stance as well. But there are around 158,000,000 catholics in africa and is the fastest growing religon in the continent. So do you think it okay for the pope to make false scientific claims about condoms to poor and uneduacted people? I don't.

Also "One of the most startling ironies of AIDS in Africa is that despite the Catholic church’s ban on the key element of comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention strategies, the Catholic church is a major provider of AIDS care and services on the continent and in other parts of the world. Approximately 12% of all AIDS care worldwide is provided by Catholic church organizations, while 13% is provided by Catholic nongovernmental organizations, meaning that Catholic church-related organizations are providing some 25% of the AIDS care worldwide-making it the largest institution in the world providing direct AIDS care." The catholic church spreading a lot of misinformation.

Spot on! The depth of the AIDS crisis in Africa can firmly be laid at the Vatican's door.

Make yer mind up. First he's to blame and now doing everything to care for the victims!

BTW, I don't think its OK to promote false scientific claims, but if you're going to use that argument, why omit the fact they also say no sex outside of marriage? Oh wait..........

No what I am saying is that the use of condoms in africa to fight aids is vital but the pope and the vatican stance is "“(HIV/AIDS) is a tragedy that cannot be overcome by money alone, and that cannot be overcome through the distribution of condoms, which even aggravates the problems.”" At the moment they provide either directly or indirectly to 25% of the worlds aid to fight against aids. Which will mean that a lot of these people are recieving advise and education from the church are being told lies that condoms do not lower the risk of catching aids. Which a lot of people will not use condoms and will increase the amount of people with aids. It would be a different if they were educated with the facts. So I saying that the catholic church "help" could be making the problem worse.

Also the no sex outside marriage thing is a moral and not scientidfic debate. Also due to evolution humans have a very healthy sexual desire to breed so they can pass on their genes. So people will not wait to have sex till they are married and telling people to do this is impossible in my mind. As people will always want sex.:-D As i was saying abstinance doesn't work " "Our analysis suggests that abstinence-only programmes that aim to prevent HIV are not effective. By all means show me the material produced by the Catholic Church that suggests that Condoms do not lower the risk of catching AIDS. I find that very hard to believe. I can't help thinking the whole this is a moral thing..... ie **** for babies only and only between married couples. Got any links to this "evidence"?

"“(HIV/AIDS) is a tragedy that cannot be overcome by money alone, and that cannot be overcome through the distribution of condoms, which even aggravates the problems.” This is a quote from the pope.

Well here is more evidence then:

LOL.... so that's your proof the pope has said don't use condoms it wont protect you from AIDS?

Stroll on!

I guess it all depends on your view point or agenda's. We all know the Catholic Church frowns on the use of Condoms and the reasons why. What's he's said there is simple. Money is needed in the fight against AIDS, but it isn't the only thing needed. Education can be paid for with cash, but if the people being taught, through either stubborness or stupidity, ignore the position regarding the dangers, then its clear that supplying Condoms isn't going to be the solution. The suggestion that Condoms "aggravate" is purely suggesting that is crazy to believe if you wear condom, you is safe man.

This is the response of the who about claims the catholic church has made "These incorrect statements about condoms and HIV are dangerous when we are facing a global pandemic which has already killed more than 20 million people, and currently affects at least 42 million." All I have said is that the church has misrepresented the science about condoms. Do i believe that condoms by themselves will stop aids in africa? no as they won't but i believe they are vital in a overall strategy to combat aids with the like of better education and resources to drugs and medical equipment and doctors etc etc. And now i am going to take your suggestion and not going to any further.

I agree. What was once a lowly Kleenex becomes as sacred as the Turin Shroud after I add the 'secret sauce'.

To be fair, although they don't promote the use of condoms, I can think of few other groups who have popularised the use of young boys in their care as a form of prophylactic to the extent of the Catholic church.

I think you are straying OT, unless of course you are suggesting the Pope has some involvement here? (I'm guessing you're just in for the bite!)
