Do you work for a small company or know people in the purchasing department? Maybe you can wangle a card that way.

And crisps, biscuits etc. Same as a supermarket.

been there a few weeks ago and i would say dont go unless you want to bulk buy.

Savings arent what they used to be. Cash and carry's are better

I agree. You only really end up saving a few pennies here and then. Great if you are like me and prefer to bulk buy though.

No it isnt.

Basic food stuff is, but things considered as "luxuries" isn't.

eg Bottles of water is VAT free, but Coke has VAT added.

Thats correct but they do have some good deal on their meat when on offer and that is vat free. I find that the laundry detergent is sometimes a good deal when on offer even with vat.
There's alot of good deals that can be had there if i only had a card
My wife's aunt has one but that was because my wife's brother had his driving school and unfortunatly i wasnt around then.

It's probably worth asking. Failing that, if they are prepared to lend you one, you can go in with a signed note from the account holder giving you permission to use the card on their behalf ... at least, you used to be able to, I haven't been in there for quite a while now.
#25
Does anyone want to add me as an additional user and send me the card ? :whistling:
#26
I've got a card, it came about by our local Makro store themselves rang where I work and asked if anyone wanted a card. So, 13 of us signed up and sure enough they arived through the post.

All correspondence (i.e. newsletters etc) are sent to your place of employlment.

The basic food is VAT free but, sweets, pop etc have VAT. This is clearly labelled in store though.
#27
Yes ,Makro is a great place to shop , especially when the Makro mails come out ,I think every fortnight .I 've virually bought all my electricals there over the years .If you are self employed and can show statements and letterhead you'll be alright , if you work for a council you may get a card or if your company has a card you can get added as an extra buyer.I was self-employed ,but finished in 1992 ,but still purchase alot from them and theres been no question asked . I even got my mam & brother a card as additional buyers ,You have to shop there within 3 months or your card can be rejected .

By the way, I don't work for the council or anything like, just Birthdays card shop, so guess anyone can join.

I used to go every now and then, but the spiteful cow at my old place of work phoned them up to tell them I no longer worked there.

Last time I went they took my card off me and said unless I could produce a VAT registration certificate then I wouldnt be getting a card anytime soon.

Sometimes letterheads etc are enough, but occassionally they have a clamp down and you have to proove beyond all reasonable doubt you are self employed before they'll let you past those little entrance gates.

The one in Birmingham is particularily strict, so if you think you can waltz in with a letter head, think again..... I had a company paying in book, cheque book, letter head and proof of ID, but they wouldnt issue me a card because I wasnt vat registered and didnt have a vat certificate.

If any of you know of one near the Midlands thats easy to get into let me know... I could do with some bulk purchasing! lol
#30
It's worth going to a store & clarifying exactly what they want - not everyone is registered for VAT (it depends on your turnover), so they will usually accept invoices to your 'company'. You have to prove to them that you are trading as a company/business.

Well if its a bit laxer I might try again and take a really big brutish looking man with me so that it looks lke we'll fight our way in if neccessary- lmao!

Thanks for that!
#34
All you have to do to get one is show 2 recent invoices over £50 with your name and address on, invoices from screwfix, jewsons to name but two should be acceptable.

Worked for me
#35
Hmm..... Looks like I'm going to be purchasing some tools.... lol

Thanks for that!
#36
Makro are good for things like dishwasher tabs and washing powder, but other for other things, supermarket deals are usually better.
#37
Ok, I'm sure this has an obvious answer but I'll ask anyway: What do makro(or any wholesalers) gain from restricting entry like this? Or is there some kind of rule? :?
#38
Saintscouple...........did you get your Makro card in the end? :?
