I'm sure the tabloids and Jeremy Kyle will no doubt start a witch hunt with Apple now..

I read this earlier. Very silly thing to do.

Saying that though, I have to say that I had a mutual infatuation with a young woman once when texting each other every 5 minutes for months & I succumbed to week batteries on occasions & did this exact same thing.

I guess he had girls on his mind & sometimes that overruled safety.

Authorities saying there's no warning against it. Do we really need a specific warning against using a charger in the bath. Think this one should be on horrible histories in a few years time, its up there with many other stupid deaths.

I thought all manuals with electronics say 'do not allow contact with water' or something similar. Do instructions have to cover every type of idiocy now?

Don't eat with chopsticks.
Don't put it up your bum.

is it not just common sense for most people with any intelligence not to have an item what is plugged directly to the mains in the bath with you ? and whats this got to do with apple ? is this there problem if a person has no common sense.

Haha reminds me of the games me and my house mates used to play on each other years ago. Get an extension lead and chuck it in the bath or undo the light switch leaving just the wires exposed because you atomically know where the light switch is at night you touch the wires. One of our house mates put a firework in the fridge while we were all chilling out. we used to get each other with things like this every other week. We were best mates but I never been so on edge living in that house we were always trying to out do each other thank god we grew up.

Wtf?! Did I read it correctly?
He had his phone plugged into an extension lead which he rested on his chest in the bath whilst he was using his phone?

Shame about the loss of life, iPhone users are a special breed indeed.

How sad...If he had just bought a rechargeable power bank available for less than a tenner he would still be alive now!
Silly boy RIP

Not playing devils advocate but looking at a lightning cable gives a false sense of security. It does look like it would be water resistant safe. Also do those things not have a small amp fuse to save you? RIP Son.

Err, not when you rest the extension lead on you chest whilst in water.

This is nothing to do Apple or any other phone / tablet charging. He rested the extension cable from the wall socket on his chest. Darwin natural selection. One less idiot in the world, hope he hadn't procreated first.

This news article is misleading and banks on the sensationalism of the appliance being Apple branded. It wasn't the fact that he had a phone charger that caused the accident, it was the fact that he had a mains extension lead resting on his chest while being submerged in water! Even if the phone charger wasn't there the accident would still happen because of the extension lead.

Not if the power bank explodes which has been know to happen with cheap aftermarket ones.

used to work with Richard. It was a silly thing to do but he was a top bloke. RIP my ex-collegue and good friend :(

Anyone knows the look of that charger and how it is plugged into the 3 pin extension socket from the hallway into the bathroom? Critically where was the last point with 220v?
.

For example, I found this on the web, pretty daft as 220v is ever so close.
Look at photo below, aarrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh; but this photo may be a "fake" set up for a laugh post on social media.

A coroner ruled his death was accidental and plans to send a report to Apple about taking action to prevent future deaths.

What's the report going to say? "Advise jeb ends that electricity and water don't mix". Absolutely ridiculous.

I wouldn't take any news writer/report for its entirety of 100% of its text, if I were you.

Please ignore those that forget a life has been lost x

There are some idiots on all websites that forget the most important thing x

I finding it hard to believe this wasn't murder. Why would he need the extension lead on his chest in the bath. Sounds more like someone threw it in with him.

Sorry but what else would you call someone who rests an extension cable on their chest whilst in the bath?

If that's not the definition of an idiot then I don't know what is.

Yes, it's sad he died. It was an idiotic way to die. Self inflicted and a stupid decision cost him his life.

it wasnt the phone going in the water which electrocuted him, that's 5V, not enough to penetrate skin. he rested the 230V 13A extension lead wired directly to the mains on his chest. it was that falling in the water which ultimately killed him.
