Is it mandatory to have a credit account with Next?

I am a new customer and I ordered something from next couple of days back. I was surpsised to find that I wasn't taken to payment page at all. Once I clicked on order confirmation, I was hoping to be taken to payment page but I was surprised to find that they opened a credit account for me automatically (with £300 limit). Now when I go to my account and try to make a payment it says I don't need to pay anything at the moment. I don't want the hassles of a credit account and like the traditional way of paying upfront before receiving anything.

I am a new customer with them and don;t know if they do it with every new customer or did I miss a fine print somewhere before confirming my order?

I signed up with next directory a few years ago and have not heard anyone who has paid upfront. Think it is account customers only. I just pay the bill off once the statement comes through each month.

once you click confirm order it gives you the option to pay by card now but quite hard to spot as only small writting about half way down the page. i have ordered a couple of times and paid straight away

No it's not mandatory.

Seems like I missed the fine print.

I normally shop instore @ Next but thought of using the free delivery code posted here. During the checkout, as I was a new customer I had to sign up for account but never got the chance to enter the free delivery code. They instead asked me to either pay for the delivery (£3.99) or buy the next directory (£3.75) with free delivery. Anyways, just told them to close my account.

I used to pay with card on Next, then all of a sudden they stopped it and put £2k on my account. I don't mind though as I don't go mad and only buy what I can afford to pay off instantly. x

Mine is £900 and I've only ever ordered twice. It's pretty dangerous really, I don't think they should be allowed to lift your credit limit to such high amounts unless you request it.

Oh i know! I think its daft. It was handy for the Next boxing day sale as i didnt have the money straight after xmas for it, but knew I would by the time the statement came so paid that off instantly. Just scary how quick they put it up.

I might have bought something from Additions direct a year back (might have used code) and last week I got a statement saying I owe them £3.95. As far as I can remember I have always paid the full amount. Don;t know what they are asking for now. I just want to stay away from Credit accounts. If I can't afford it I won't buy it....

You can pay by card if you fail the credit check.
