How does looking at himself in the mirror help him realise that she is a woman?

But seriously ASB you are being extremely sensitive!! Everyone knows its a horrible situation but Im sure he was just lightening the mood. I hope she recovers.

Do you really think all these comedians that make jokes out of cancer, aids, war etc really have those views? Cheer up buddy, Barbados cant be that depressing.

I have to disagree with you here Mr PT and agree with ASB.
I think it is insensitive and uncalled for to make a joke about MN being a bloke in a thread about her having breast cancer. Too personal and somewhat homophobic plus there are quite a few members who regularly post in misc who have breast-cancer related family situations.
I would say that this thread did not require 'lightening' in the first place. My post ^ was intended to convey that I also found the remark inappropriate.

How you've managed to not get suspended for that comment I don't know.

Being disingenuous adds to your insensitivity IMO.

You absolute idiot. What makes you think that is even remotely funny?

Looking in the mirror to face himself and his poor sense of humour.

The crux is that this "joke" isnt even funny. Fact.

Comment may not have been the best but it's hardly homophobic is it!!

Oh and I'm not offended and my mother is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer. I hear far worse jokes when someone has actually passed away and they go by without reprimand.

Yes agreed it does sound bad if you take the comment at face value but I'm sure everyone realises its was said in jest and no harm intended with it (this is the internet, some people act differently in this place to real life). Everybody on this site would agree breast cancer or any cancer is a horiffic problem for anyone to face but what a boring thread would be made if everyone put how they really felt.

"Oh so sad"
"What an amazing person"
"Aww she's like the female Lance Armstrong, live strong Martina"
"Hero"
"All the best, I love her so much"

Jokes will always be made at peoples expense, I didn't really think Michael Jackson dying was particularly funny but that doesn't mean I could avoid a joke about it being sent to me every 10 seconds after it happened.

It certainly wasn't the best! We agree on that.
I said 'somewhat homophobic'. Can you explain to me how to interpret 'I didn't know blokes could get breast cancer' then?
... and in what way it is funny?

I hope that your mum's treatment is effective. Just, please, think about why I may have written that.

The thing is that the thread could have been a lot different altogether. If it was a joke it was in very poor taste and if it wasn't what was it? I'm not very proud of my contribution to it TBH.
Boring threads are OK sometimes.

Came on to post a message in response to the news about MN as hadn't heard about it till now only to find the usual bickering/snidey remarks - same old same old even in a cancer thread

I didn't find it funny no but I wasn't offended either. His comment wasn't homophobic as he wasn't joking about her sexuality, it is her manish features that was the joke. Throughout her career this has been said about her.

Anyway, getting back on topic.......

I was a huge fan of MN back in her heyday and have great memories of my dad and I watching Wimbledon - she really is a legend. I have read a bit about her cancer and thankfully its all positive and her outlook is very bright.

The word cancer is one that sends shivers down me - and I dont know one family that hasnt been affected by it in one way or another - its just awful. But thank god for the research and advances in treating this now because I for one, wouldnt still have my father with me today.
#22
Just sad news to learn of anyone having to face the battle against it :-(
#23
Cant say that I am/was a fan of MN at any time as not big on tennis. But wouldnt wish illness on anyone. I hope she gets all the neccessary help and support to help her deal with this situation.

BTW There have been instances where I have replied quickly to something in the past and then thought afterwards that the remark was inappropriate. It may be possible to revisit and edit the remark, or request that admin remove the remark if editing is not possible. Just saying.

WHATS THE POINT - My late mum had breast cancer and beat it however a year after sadly passed away after it spread to her lungs, she was cleared of BC but they had not spotted the LC. VERY insensitive IMHO and you really should point your mouth towards your brain and think before comments like that.

I wish the mods would do something about the posts in this thread, it's not nice to read.

My thoughts go out to her and anyone suffering from this horrible disease, I just wish some people wouldn't be so insensitive, it's heartbreaking enough to go through without idiots throwing their comments in.

Wise words.....Plenty of threads to have a giggle in but this aint one of them.
