Hi All,
Earlier today i was in Morrisons where i bought 8 bottles of coke, 2 tubs of lurpak butter and a couple of other things and when i got the receipt it said i had saved 24p.
I then happened to go into Asda where i noticed that coke was on a much better offer so out of interest when i got home i compared what i had bought on mySupermarket and to my surprise it said that Not only Asda but also Sainsburys and Tesco where cheaper.
Intrigued i rang Morrisons cs to ask why and was told that they only price match offers that the other supermarkets 'make them aware of' therefore the offer on the coke at Asda did not factor.
If you check their t&c's they state they match other supermarkets offers and as these offers are usually what makes the difference you have to wonder if we are being conned by the publicity

Reading the t&c's, you get match points where you have spent more than £15 and your total comparable shopping would have been cheaper elsewhere ie they won't give you the saving for each individually cheaper item.

Seems reasonable enough to me.

Blimey! That's an interesting read. I don't think I will have much trouble sleeping tonight...

Thats what i am saying, my TOTAL comparable shop would have been £6.05 cheaper in Asda but because they do not factor in the multibuy offer according to them it would have been more.
If you want to check it out the total list was:

8 x 1.75L coke
2 x Lurpak spreadable
1 x Flipper Dippers
1x mullerice 6 pack

Guess it is a bit of a weird list, but i ran out of butter, i drink a lot of coke, the rice is handy for the lunch box and the dippers are in the freezer as a stand by if my nephew comes round.

I thought match and more was a good idea to begin with, but there are too many caveats for me to get my head around. I'll just stick to buying things where they are cheapest in the first place. It's less work :D

Out of interest, what was your total spend at Morrisons?

I'm not expert, but I regularly get £5 vouchers back and I'm not a big shopper at all. I find it very hard to fault them given I can walk to Morrisons and the others I'd have to drive to!

The supermarkets are compulsive liars in just about every respect. They have price fixed for years and you are the mug getting shafted. If Tesco and ASDA have the same price on any product then it must mean that they have exactly the same costs, staffing costs, store running costs and everything else for the price to be the same. There is no such thing at a RRP in a free market as it contradicts itself!

This ^^^^

The big supermarkets have been running an effective price cartel for years at our cost, now the likes of Lidl and Aldi raise their game and show up these greedy companies for exactly what they are.
