Mayor of London. Who will win?

guv Avatar

OK, I know the majority here are not affected by this election, but most will at least have a decent knowledge of the two main contestants, Red Ken Livingstone and BorisBonkers Johnson.

I had vowed not to vote for Red Ken, but I cant let my vote go to waste and possibly let a complete clown be in charge of London!

Having just watched "Question Time", the gulf between the candidates in terms of ability is stagerring.

Does anyone take Boris seriously? I dont think I have ever witnessed anyone make a bigger fool of themselves on TV. Calling him a clown is an insult to clowns!

I'd rather someone else take charge of London than Red Ken, but this alternative is frightening!

There are lots of things I dont agree with Livingstone. Congestion charges is one of them. None of them are going to remove them. As for raising fares, tell me where that doesnt happen? You did know fuel prices had virtually doubled in the last couple of years?

BTW - get rid of that huge picture of Coco!

mmmm i like sweets. i dont care what he's like on questiontime. i'd prob prat about on there to make people giggle, he's after the popularity vote. and he has mine!

And there was me thinking it was a serious issue to be in charge of London! :p

I like Boris too - on "Have I got news for you" - where he can perform and cause no harm. Problem is, people are laughing at him, not with him.

I would personally vote Boris and watch all hell break loose.
But in all seriousness they all screw up and at least he's a character.
#16
exactly. he'll balls up, we'll all be ****** off and he'll do a press announcement, mess up n we'll all giggle n forget it!

Change London for good.

Vote Siân Berry.

Vote Green Party.

“London is the second most expensive city in the world, and while fortunes are made in the City, ordinary Londoners often struggle to pay for the basics - housing, energy and transport. Being Green is about believing in a fair share for everyone, so I am determined to cut the cost of living and create a fairer, greener London. My plans will also slash the capital's carbon footprint showing that done in the right way, helping save the planet also saves Londoners’ hard earned money. Make this happen by voting Green on May 1st.”

SIÂN BERRY, Mayor of London candidate for the Green Party.

SIÂN’S PLANS FOR A GREENER, MORE AFFORDABLE LONDON.

Free insulation for every home that needs it.
Cut all bus and off-peak tube fares by 20p.
Insist all employers pay a London Living Wage of at least £7.20 per hour.
Change planning rules to ensure at least 60% of all new housing is affordable.
Affordable premises for small shops and businesses in new commercial developments.
Oppose all airport expansion in London and the South East.
Rail and tube franchises back under public control.
Cancel the £500 million Thames Gateway roadbuilding plans - put the money into public transport instead.
Solar electricity and heating on 100,000 roofs in the city by 2015.
A 20mph city-wide speed limit on all residential roads throughout London.
Community policing through Safer Neighbourhood Teams round the clock not just at certain times of the day.

ABOUT SIÂN

Siân is 33 and lives in Kentish Town. She studied engineering at Trinity College, Oxford, and is author of a series of books on greener living.

She is founder of the Alliance Against Urban 4x4s campaign, and recently celebrated persuading the GLA to abolish the congestion charge for the cleanest cars while charging gas-guzzlers more.

Siân is a school governor and a Patron of the Fair Pay Network, which works to abolish poverty wages.

Vote for Siân as your first choice.

You have two votes in the election for Mayor of London. Vote for Siân Berry, the Green Party candidate, as your first choice by putting a cross next to her name on the pink ballot paper. Your second vote is your insurance and will count as a full vote if Siân is not one of the top two candidates. You can use this second choice to vote for the "least worst" of the other main candidates

Hmmmm. Not exactly someone I would want in charge of a £20B crosslink rail project!

His solution to tube strikes, was to get RMT to sign a non strike agreement! Maybe on planet Zog!!!! Its a nice idea, but thats all it ever would be.

Boris is like one of those people in the workplace who keep on getting promoted so that they cause less trouble.

Trouble is,the tories need Boris,it gives them some sort of character, because for the most part, well for me anyway, they are so far removed from me and my life that they don't score on my political radar........bland,public school oiks......of which Boris is one also, but he has identity.

I would rather have Boris at the helm of the country than Gordon. It would further my dreams of a Mad Max apocalyptic world :)

I was going to ask what the congestion charge would be under a "green party" but the above I have no problem with!

The contest is obviously just a 2 horse race, so it boils down in the end as to which is the worst poison. Livingstone is at least steady, even if he does have some ideas I dislike. But Boris!!!!!! Its pretty embarrasing if he is the best the Tories have to offer! No wonder why they are in the Wilderness. Its not like they are up against a popular governement is it!

I would also vote for Siân despite the fatalistic two-horse race discourse. Ken would get my second vote. Although I have never voted a Tory candidate for anything, I must say that even if Boris were the candidate for my preferred party he wouldn't get my vote. He really is a buffoon & seems to characterise undeserved priviledge of the old-school stereotype. He has a serious chance of winning though, which doesn't exactly say a lot for the voting public...

I'm rather bored of society and fancy a change. Plus I don't drive and fancy my chances in a chaotic situation.
Whether or not i'd look 'cool' in the leather attire is of course open to debate :whistling:

Everyone should have a vote on the London Mayor as it effects us all. We still have to pay the congestion charge but we are not allowed to vote against the man who brought it in. I say lets charge Londoners £30 to enter any of the other counties that'll teach em:whistling:

In what way does it affect "you all"?
We still have to pay the congestion charge but we are not allowed to vote against the man who brought it in.

I still have to pay whatever charges your own council levy if I visit, so what's your beef? You have the choice not to drive to London during peak traffic, so cant see what your argument actually is?

Sounds like someone has a chip on their shoulder?

Tell you what. London can keep and use all the tax money it raises and you can do the same in your town. Have fun!
