McDonalds No discount for armed forces but freebies for students

I was really shocked at the weekend when in the queue at a McDonalds service station. There was a bus load of army guys and when one asked if they did discount for members of the armed forces there were told no. However I know they do offers for students where they get freebies when they order a value meal. So freebies for students but nothing for those that are prepared to give their lives for our freedom! seems wrong to me.

If they're going to be defending our country then I'd rather they didn't have a diet of fast food so I'm with McDonald's on this.

students are the ones who keep McDonalds in business, students don't have much money, armed forces get a good wage so hence not needing discount. Tell them to pay up like the rest of us. It's just a job.

Why should the Army get a discount?

Armed forces earn a full time adult wage. Students do not.

No discount for NHS workers who save our lives? What about the police and fire service who act in a similar way? Pensioner discount? Where does it end?

We are all grateful for the armed forces but its not mandatory, they have a choice. In many cases the Army pays alot better then other jobs they are qualified for.

We used to get 25% off at Burger King in service stations if you showed your Forces ID ( MOD 90 ) or if you were in uniform they didn't tend to ask...

never went to Mc D's cos we didn't get anything there!

oh and for those saying the Army get a good wage ... we didn't when we first started ...

the private soldiers are paid a pittance when you consider we could be asked to work 23hrs 59 minutes a day ... especially in Iraq / Afghan
most young soldiers are on £35 a day and rising up... not that much really !

See post 6.

My mate is a retained firefighter and he gets free coffee and hamburger/cheeseburger. Could be franchise dependent though

I
takeit back but the army is a choice. People who join the army start life with as good of opportunity as the majority, no one forces them to put their life on the line and yes some people in the army do long hours where some do pretty much nothing for hours on end.

One person said they get a good wage thats an opinion.

However compared to other jobs that require the same qualification they pay more and there are no large expenses like bills and digs to pay.

Yes we CHOSE to join the Army and it did give me a good life and lots of good opportunites that civvies would never get. And for that we got a small wage - after 7 years of service i left the army on a wage of £24k still not a lot compared to most people...

we were paid 24 hours a day and could be asked to go to some of the worlds most horrible spots and have no say in the matter..

i went all over the world, saw a lot of things and did some things too...

I have been out of the army for 8 years now and i don't regret a single day i spent serving my country and i am proud of what i did and what the boys n girls are doing now!

Maybe they don't but if companies like McDonald's want their business and the hope of their continued business beyond university, then these discount schemes help.

Alot of my mates are in the forces, so I dont hate soldiers. They are home alot and have alot of disposable income.

just to add I dont hate soldiers but I'm sick of people posting stuff on fb and other social network medias. Moronic things saying that the forces should get paid more than footballers etc. Winds me up.
#35
we only found out that we got discount in BK cos we all walked in caked in mud, rifles slung round our backs coming off a two week exercise and they gave us 25% off the price of a burger

i agree that soldiers should be paid more than what they are but not footballers wages .. that's just silly :p

a good wage for a job where you could be shot or blown up

i think not

Nobody is forced to join the Army.

True story ...

I'd rather go to war with someone who happily volunteered to join up, rather than someone who is forced into National Service ..

Id rather go to war with someone who volunteered then went in for the monetary incentive. Just to clear this up I never said that soldiers get a good wage.
