McDonalds No discount for armed forces but freebies for students

I was really shocked at the weekend when in the queue at a McDonalds service station. There was a bus load of army guys and when one asked if they did discount for members of the armed forces there were told no. However I know they do offers for students where they get freebies when they order a value meal. So freebies for students but nothing for those that are prepared to give their lives for our freedom! seems wrong to me.

If they're going to be defending our country then I'd rather they didn't have a diet of fast food so I'm with McDonald's on this.

students are the ones who keep McDonalds in business, students don't have much money, armed forces get a good wage so hence not needing discount. Tell them to pay up like the rest of us. It's just a job.

Why should the Army get a discount?

No discount for NHS workers who save our lives? What about the police and fire service who act in a similar way? Pensioner discount? Where does it end?

Armed forces earn a full time adult wage. Students do not.

We are all grateful for the armed forces but its not mandatory, they have a choice. In many cases the Army pays alot better then other jobs they are qualified for.

We used to get 25% off at Burger King in service stations if you showed your Forces ID ( MOD 90 ) or if you were in uniform they didn't tend to ask...

never went to Mc D's cos we didn't get anything there!

oh and for those saying the Army get a good wage ... we didn't when we first started ...

the private soldiers are paid a pittance when you consider we could be asked to work 23hrs 59 minutes a day ... especially in Iraq / Afghan
most young soldiers are on £35 a day and rising up... not that much really !

See post 6.

My mate is a retained firefighter and he gets free coffee and hamburger/cheeseburger. Could be franchise dependent though

I
takeit back but the army is a choice. People who join the army start life with as good of opportunity as the majority, no one forces them to put their life on the line and yes some people in the army do long hours where some do pretty much nothing for hours on end.
