probably nothing as in this case the ref wasn't conned and mcgeady was suitably punsished.

it really is good to see the refs clamping down on this sort of cheating by these undesireables. well done dougie mcdonald.

Oh and in b4 the first blindand or deluded celtic fan who claims it wasn't a dive and is part of an sfa conspiracy. :-D

i was watching it on streaming and the picture was terrible so couldn't really see. However if he did dive, he should indeed get a 2 match ban. I think arsene wenger should receive a touchline ban for saying "eduardo wasn't touched, and i don't know why he fell to the ground dramatically like he'd been shot, but it wasn't a dive". Does anyone else find that totally ridiculous?

he did dive and so should mowbray recieve that touchline ban, his comments after the game are on a par with arsenes.

Nothing quite like a biased currant bun coming up with the usual stereotypical injection of mince.

at the end of the day the player should be fined and receive a 1 match ban, then move on, eduardo will never live this down, which is not fair, it could potentially ruin his career

the media have blown it all out of proportion and uefa have handled it poorly

I thought you and your fellow celtic fans would be on here condemning the cheat that mcgeady was today with the same verocity that was aimed at eduardo rather than commenting on my view of the cheat mcgeady.

Because I thought there was contact - when I saw it.

Haven't had time to view the incident again - if I do and there's a better view of it, I will quite happily condemn his actions.

I've already made comment on McGeady. Perhaps you need to pay attention a bit more.

Of course it's the correct decision.

Just because previous exponents of the 9.5/10 have escaped without punishment doesn't mean that others should escape censure.

The only way to clamp down on it is to take action. Hopefully this will set a precedent and clean up the image of the game for all.

moob
The issue here is that Eduardo cheated, blatantly, and got caught.

Tough, as they say.

moob
So much deflection in this discussion it isn't real.

As a Celtic fan, I don't really think the end result over the two legs would have changed had the correct decision been given against the diver in the first place. Arsenal were the better team and deserved to go through regardless.

The fact of the matter is Eduardo cheated and should be punished. The fact others have got away with it in the past is relatively inconsequential. Yes, many before this have escaped punishment, but that does not mean the the situation should be allowed to continue, nor does it mean that every single contentious decision should be open to post match review.

If he does get punished, and I can't see any reason why not, it may make other players consider their actions - which can only be good for the game.

moob
I think you'll find it's the exception rather than the rule regards the overall outcome of the game from a Celtic fan's perspective.

What the dive does is highlight Eduardo's own inadequacy with respect to his honesty.

Mowbray on it:
QUOTE
We've all made a pact about not criticising officials, but for me it's a lack of understanding of the game. I've been shown it in isolation. McGeady ran 40 or 50 yards before the incident and skipped past a couple of tackles - a third tackle has come in and he went down before he anticipates the challenge and gets a sending off.

"If you put it into context of the week we've just had with the Eduardo sensation, if we hadn't had the week we've had in the media. I would suggest the referee would never have made it a sending off.

"It was right in front of me. I saw it and I know exactly how it happened. In my opinion, it's a lack of understanding of the game from an official who is a very honest guy, who gives his best the way the players give his best, but he made a wrong decision regarding Aiden McGeady."

You're doing well with the quotes. I'm getting a little scared and beginning to think I may have a stalker.

However, getting back to the matter at hand, I've now seen the footage from a decent angle and picture quality. At first when I saw it, I couldn't believe he got the yellow - neither did the commentary team. I do think he took a dive now, and hope he gets censured for doing so.

i don't think the comments are the same. However yes in all fairness if managers are watching a replay on a monitor and clearly the player wasn't touched, they should get a bad rap for excusing it. However this was out on the wing. Mcgeady had a useless free kick to gain from it. Eduardo dived in the penalty area and gained a penalty for his team which could well have changed the course of a very important champions league match, potentially costing celtic 10-15 million. I've seen Aiden McGeady skip over many a bad challenge and try to stay on his feet. I just don't think he's a diver. Thats my honest opinion. Yes i'm a celtic fan but i'm trying to be unbiased here. Didier drogba is a diver, he's been seen week in week out diving, thats someone who i'd class as a diver.

Lol that is absolutely hilarious, after all their moaning and whingeing, thinking that the Eduardo dive is the only reason they lost and that it's disgraceful then the next game their best player gets sent off for diving! You just couldn't make it up! :w00t:

I'm sorry but Eduardo is someone who's had his leg broken in 3 places and had a year out as a result so I think he has more reason than many to go to ground when he sees some pub rubbish oafy goalkeeper running towards him. Does Eduardo dive week in week out? No, that's the first time anyone has seen him dive yet Celtic fans and the whole media were very quick to vilify him and call him a diver when it's not the case.

I think that applies to Arsenal fans tbh.

When Eduardo broke hes leg playing Birmingham, they want jail for the player who mis-timed his tackle. Modric broke his leg against the same team yesterday, but not a word.

Personally, I just think some teams fans just cant help being whingers.
