Is the English FA still having to pay Sven for terminating his contract early?

Will they have to do the same with McLaren? If so, that's just wasted millions!

How do you know he was 1st choice?

Obviously McClaren got the job - he has a track record for saying "yes".

Its also good to see that sponging creep Venables get the boot as well.

i am a referee and had a evening in the company of janie frampton who is high up in the fa.
she told me o'neil was no1 but they were worried about his wifes illness.
he apparently was interviewed for the job but failed it.
mcclaren is the yes man they wanted.(well thats my opinion)
#17
thank god
what an embarrasment not even making it to the euro's what am i gonna do!!!

i say ian wright for england manager he has what all the others lack - passion
#18
I think O'Neill would be a good choice....

anyone else think that some of the players should also get the boot?? They were so poor that there would be no harm bringing in some hungry young lads to the fray.

How can you fail a coaches intervew.????:? :?

errm Mr O'Neill...can you please tell us what qualifications you can bring to the job..??etc. Think his credentials were slightly more shiny than mclarens!

I accept his wife was ill - and that comes first in my mind...but perhaps the fact he is a good politician and is not afraid to speak his mind (rather than be an FA puppet) had something to do with it!
#20
Capello or Mourinho
#21
i agree with mourinho

maybe if there wasn't so many foriegn players in our leagues there would be more fresh meat to choose from there should be a limit as to how many foriegn players one team can have

rock - i think you have it spot on. o'neil is not a yes man,he has his own way of doing things.i dont think his wife was realy the issue as he joined villa a matter of weeks later.

Oh thank god for that, I jumped for joy this morning when I heard the FA chairman announce he had been sacked. Right from the start I said he was useless, and everyone disagreed with me.

Whoever takes over needs to view the last few games and realise that there is talent in english players but its all about the right mix in the selection and placing the players in the position they are good at.

I can never for the life of me understand why McClaren got rid of Beckham, and when he had to ask him back to play, he still only gave him half a game.

I have to ask, if Beckham or Ferdinand was anywhere near the play of the second Croatian goal last night, would they have defended it? I think so.

Beckham has to be in any key qualifier. ABSOLUTELY has to.
To leave him out was unforgivable. McClaren didn't like losing him to Galaxy, but personal feelings have nothing to do with qualifying for the Euros. To leave beckham out of the starting squad was a crazy thing to do.
Yes, ask Mourinho. He'll probably say no, as the England job tends to destroy careers. But it's worth asking.
I wouldn't manage the England squad for all the tea in China. It's a liability. English football has far too many foreign players and not enough home grown talent. Until that changes, we cannot be as competitive as we could be.
The premiership is all about money and nothing to do with home grown substance.
