I have decided that once a week my boys are going to take it in turns to cook a family meal. Not sure how this will pan out but we are going to give it a go.
I am after simple nutritious meals for them to make for the whole family, main courses only involving mainly chicken breasts, beef mince, pasta, potatoes and vegetables.
All they can do at the moment is beans on toast, bacon butties and pizza, so I want to broaden their horizons........hope you can help :O)

Forgot to metion they are nearly 13 and 15 :)
gonna get them to master the ironing next!

Better off starting off with things they enjoy, that way they'll get more and more adventurous as it goes on.

sounds like a heavy weekend lol

Sometimes we'll have chicken, barbecue sauce, bacon and cheese.

Part cook the chicken breasts, bacon around it, oven it for 20 mins or so, then out, cover in sauce then cheese and put under the grill.

Yeah they are.

Macaroni cheese, doesn't take much to make a cheese sauce from scratch.

Oh, ya get schwartz sauces in Asda, I use the garlic mushrooms one, usually find a rack of them in the meat ailse in mine for some reason.

Anyways we get some chicken breasts, chop them up, fry them with some onions and mushrooms until fully cooked, make some pasta, make the sauce and add them all together, my kids love it, they always come back for more.

Stew!! Beef chunks, onions, carrots potatoes. Faster if they use mince. Cook the veg (pots & carrots) separately and boil for half an hour in min water then add to the mince + onions - voila!
#28
Sweet and sour chicken? We cheat a little for this, buy the Blue Dragon packets of sauce and Uncle Bens fried rice packets for the micro, our kids wont eat peppers so only onions and pineapples go into ours.

Again cook yer chicken and onions, add the sauce and simmer for a little while add in the pineapple along with some of the juices it came in and serve.

Usually the other half will cook the rice then add some more egg to it, usually get some prawn crackers to go with it.

Home made soup, love a good veg one with bacon pieces or a good mushroom one.

Enjoy bits, I used to get to make the sunday dinner when I was about 14/15, always enjoyed doing it, very satisfying to see your dishes come together, tell your sons good luck xx

Straight forwards fried rice. Cooked chicken or bung a load of breasts in the oven for half an hour. Chop up. Cooked rice or cook some! ( See this is really a meal from left-overs.) Fry onions/peppers/sliced tomatoes/broccoli etc in wok/big pan, in butter. Add the rice, chicken and sweet corn/petit pois.

Edit - choosing the ingredients - good luck with that. Hehe, I can just imagine. How about some of this, that , the other.
#34
it's simple & cheap but try www.asda-recipes.co.uk at least the ingredients can all be purchased together...
#35
sounds like a good idea.....why dont you let them choose recipies off the internet? There will be loads of easy meals out there and it will learn them to follow guidelines too.....might give them more of an idea of things than asking you how to cook everything?

Just a point though...not sure if chicken is the best thing to get them to cook.....food poisoning and everything lol...and thinking about that Im guessing you have told them the whole raw/cooked food type of info....great idea but would hate for it to be making the family sick! lol good luck with everything....should take photos of the meals :p

Sausage & mash

Omelette

Scrambled egg on toast

French Toast

Pie and Oven chips

Or a really simple one for leftover cooked chicken is add a tin of condensed mushroom soup to the chicken and boil some rice = chicken in mushrom sauce with rice.

BTW if you are worried about eggs & salmonella - don't be. If you get British eggs its virtually been eradicated from UK eggs....
#37
Cook (80% cooked) some pasta then drain them off, set aside.
Diced the chicken, lightly dusted with flour (corn flour). Pan fry the chicken, add mushrooms, peppers, sweetcorn, onions (anyother veg you like)
add the pasta. Open a can of campbells Chicken/mushroom soup, add this in and boil. sorted. Oh add some grounded pepper and/or chilli flakes too. Gives it a slight kick
#38
Chicken & mushroom with whatever you want.

Buy some chicken breasts & a can of mushroom soup, put chicken in oven dish, cover with mushroom soup. Stick in the oven til chicken cooked through. Add whatever you want to go with it. Veg, chips, rice etc... Sorted!
#39
Meatballs! Just add onions (and herbs if not too controversial!) to the mince and roll into balls, whack in a pan, add a jar of tomato sauce or just tomatoes cook til the meatballs done. Cook some spag, drain, add to sauce and meatballs etc voila!
