Media Centre alternatives?

I've just got myself a TV card for my PC. At the moment I'm using Vista's Media Centre, but I'm a bit frustrated that I can't record programmes in DivX or similar.

I've had a look at MediaPortal, but can't get it to work with my card (Pinnacle 3010iX).
Are there any other (preferably free) media centre's I should be looking at?
Thanks!

I just set up a XP Media Centre (minus TV as it's just for watching downloaded video). I saw this and it looked pretty cool

did you try the separate tv server? that has better support for more cards, on the easy install say yes to watch high def and you will be given that option, i use it and its amazing.
Also gbpv is very good, i couldn't even get earos to load off the live-cd seems like a work in progress so i'll wait a while before i give it another go
