Hi,
I have a PC. Spec is fine I think for what I need it for...general media hub just to play back movies and listen to some music perhaps.

I'm thinking of connecting this PC to my TV. The PC only has a VGA port (no HDMI) and my TV has a socket for the VGA, however I have come across this from dealextreme...

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.33557

1. Would this do you the job converting the signal from my PC to the TV and also send the audio with it? I'd need it as 4-5m cable - can these be bought?

2. Am I better in just buying a VGA to VGA cable and just use a JACK audio cable to transfer the sound?

Help would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

vga/audio jack is acceptable, to some.... most people purists included will insist on digital optical audio out from pc and dvi minimum and if possible hdmi output from graphics card.

That cable seems like something to make use of SOME hdmi sockets capability of taking VGA, but under no circumstances does it convert VGA to HDMI digital.

Is a £30 graphics card with hdmi out of the question?

No its not out of the question, are they that cheap? Linky?

I was just trying to set it up to send some avi's to the TV with sound. I know the quality is no where as good as HD but definitely watchable. I have a blu ray player for that :)

I do intend to get an AV receiver, I can put the PC HDMI directly into the back of the AV for sound

Have some rep by the way for your help

Indeed, try it with vga, see if you are happy, if not, £30 gfx card from www.ebuyer.com with hdmi, and a hdmi to hdmi cable from 7dayshop, done.

HD content, i.e .mkv files on the PC can be sent to the PC via VGA?

Just need to sort the sound out then....

I'm sure if I just buy an audio cable and run it to the PC it'll be fine. I intend to get an AV receiver soon so maybe I could use a input on there

that does depend on the tv,
my friends technika 1080p would not accept 1080p on the vga but does quite happily on the dvi, whereas my ebuyer cheapie 1080p will take it on both vga and dvi,
what is the resoultion of your tv?, this is important as to achieve best quality over vga you need to match output with panel res.
saying that give it a try vga cables are cheap enough. just try and achieve that match
