Do cats have belly buttons?

Indeed they do, and it is located just below the rib cage - similar to humans. However, the cat's navel is nothing like ours.

It is hidden under its fur and resembles a scar, rather than the typical human's round or oval-shaped navel. This is because it is the remnants of the umbilical cord which the mother cat cuts with her teeth just after the kitten is born.

A cat will almost never "meow" at another cat. This sound is reserved for humans.

Ailurophilia is the "love of cats."

The nose pad of a cat is ridged in a pattern that is unique, just like the fingerprint of a human.

25% of cat owners blow dry their cats hair after a bath.

The weirdest cat on record was a female called Mincho who went up a tree in Argentina and didn't come down again until she died six years later. While treed, she managed to have three litters with equally ambitious dads.

"Sociable" cats will follow you from room to room to monitor your activities throughout the day.

off topic but came across this obstacle course video ...

"Squirrels will do anything for their next meal - even figuring out complicated obstacle courses. This squirrel had no problem getting past this "Rube Goldberg like" track. But I like the squirrel at the end that figured out how to get free candy from the vending machine - maybe he can teach me that trick."

Cats are the sleepiest of all mammals. They spend 16 hours of each day sleeping. With that in mind, a seven year old cat has only been awake for two years of its life!

Cats are more active during the evening hours.

Cats spend 30% of their waking hours grooming themselves.

Sir Isaac Newton is not only credited with the laws of gravity but is also credited with inventing the cat flap.

A cat has more bones than a human being; humans have 206 and the cat has 230 bones.

A cat's hearing is much more sensitive than humans and dogs.

The cat's tail is used to maintain balance.

Cats see six times better in the dark and at night than humans.

Cats eat grass to aid their digestion and to help them get rid of any fur in their stomachs.

A healthy cat has a temperature between 38 and 39 degrees Celcius.

Cats have the largest eyes of any mammal.

The female cat reaches sexual maturity at around 6 to 10 months and the male cat between 9 and 12 months.

A female cat will be pregnant for approximately 9 weeks or between 62 and 65 days from conception to delivery.

All cats need taurine in their diet to avoid blindness. Cats must also have fat in their diet as they are unable to produce it on their own.

In households in the UK and USA, there are more cats kept as pets than dogs. At least 35% of households with cats have 2 or more cats.
When a cats rubs up against you, the cat is marking you with it's scent claiming ownership.

About 37% of American homes today have at least 1 cat.

(i had a cat like the 1st one, and later one like the last one)

The cat's front paw has 5 toes and the back paws have 4. Cats born with 6 or 7 front toes and extra back toes are called polydactl.

An adult cat has 30 teeth, 16 on the top and 14 on the bottom.

There are approximately 60,000 hairs per square inch on the back of a cat and about 120,000 per square inch on its underside.

Cats and kittens should be acquired in pairs whenever possible as cat families interact best in pairs.

In multi-cat households, cats of the opposite sex usually get along better.

The first official cat show in the UK was organised at Crystal Palace in 1871.

A cat that bites you after you have rubbed his stomach, is probably biting out of pleasure, not anger.

CATS RULE .. OK
(I have a dog  )

mother cats purr as a homing device. the kittens learn to purr in return and continue to do so for life.

i found this one facinating: How a cat 'speaks' is quiet remarkable. They don't speak phrases to express affection, outrage, hunger, loneliness, boredom, confusion, happiness and fear in their natural frequency range, which would be inaudible to humans, but at a much lower frequency that humans can hear. Some researchers believe they may have learned we can't hear them in their natural range and have adapted so they can relate to us on our terms.
