I have a merc that needs a major service - the difference between merc and non merc garage is at least £300 and then some . The thing is I am going to sell the car as soon as I can .give or take a month .

Do you think it is worth it to service at merc as Im going to sell it
does anyone know of a reliable merc servicing garage in London ?

It depends on the age of the car, the price you are selling it for, and the difference in price for a non main dealer stamp.

To add my two pennies worth, I would say that your decision depends on two factors:

1. How old the car is.
2. Whether the car already full dealer service history.

Personally, if the car doesn't already have a full complement of dealer service history stamps in the log book then I would be tempted to go through a private garage.

why not find a specialist

I know it may sound daft but I know someone who takes theirs to Boulogne or it might be Calais on a cheap day trip and has it done there. When the exchange rate was better he said he was saving several hundred pounds on major servicing and even now he still saves and has a nice day out and does some cheap booze shopping to offset some of his costs.

Try ringing Merc garages in different parts of the country, further north and in Wales for example. The prices can vary by a few hundred quid.

I have got a 2005 C class C200 estate and recently received a loyalty service card from my local dealership in Plymouth. Probably too far for you, but I suspect most dealerships are running similar promotions which says that you will get around 12%/15% off the cost of your annual service.

I only bought my car last October (p/ex against my old Audi A6) , so its not like I've built up a long standing relationship with my local dealer or anything! May be worth phoning around a few dealers near you to see whether they are running similar promotions?

Lord Trump - have you bought any other car from any other merc dealerships / did you take out a service plan or any other extras that they would of given you that service card ? I bought the car from a london merc 5 years ago , but I havnt received anything like this and it would be great if I could get one!

I'd like to check the price up north but when you factor in the price of petrol , the 40 - 60 squid you save sorta cancels out , but I will try . Plus they have this fixed priced servicing - doesnt this mean it would be the same nationwide ?

Thanks

I bought the car from an independent dealer and haven't taken out any service plan with Mercedes. I put the car through a service in November and that is the only dialogue I have had with my local Mercedes dealer. The promotion card & details are at home so I will have a look at the terms of the promotion when I get home and post them up on here for you if you like.

Believe me, if you ring your merc dealerships around you your bound to find a varied differance in price.
OK, we don't have a merc but when I was pricing up service and cambelt charges for our Vauxhall we saved over £250 just by going to a garage 10 miles further down the road.

Just to confirm, the membership card that I received is for the 'Mercedes Benz South West 3+ Programme, and it covers Exeter, Plymouth, Taunton & Truro. I expect that too far for you, hwever it is probably that dealerships nbearer to you are running similar loyalty programmes!

It doesn't give any specific info on discount rates, other than that the loyalty prgramme entitles the card holder to special rates on repair, SERVICE & maintenance work.
