Albeit it was against a weak team but he has got off the mark. I think the fact that he has got the number 7 shirt shows that fergie has plans to use him quite a lot as he realises what he can do.
I saw berbatov miss the chance that lead to rooneys goal and i will still maintain that berba is a waste of space and money. i think if owen starts scoring freely then berba will find himself on the bench a lot more than he would have wanted. I dont think he is a united player and does not have the quality to make the step up to uniteds level from the level he was playing at with spurs.

Didn't see the the match as I was paint balling, However It's great that Owen's scored and not got injured lol, I guess it's a good sign of hopefully things to come.

I don't think he should of been given the number 7 shirt just yet though, Maybe next season providing he performs well.

Yes it may encourage him to play at a better level and Owen is experienced enough to take the pressure and expectation of wearing it. However the fact he once played for the Pile is a little bit of a negative. However that's eased by the fact he supports Everton.

Hopefully in regards to Berbatov he will hopefully improve to the level expected of him, I think one of the major issues is the fact that as the season progressed he felt the urge to try and drop deep into a similar role as Tevez and Rooney played and looked a bit lost as he hasn't got the pace of either of them.

Maybe if he played in a more advanced position and quit trying to chase the ball he'd score more.

I still think Berbatov can do a lot better, Fergie obviously believes in his ability and his possessional play is very good and holds the ball up well.

It's easy for an average player to stand out at Spurs.

We didnt play great i agree, but they just had 13 hour flight, then were told the hotel they were going to be staying in tonight got blown up and people were dead, would shock and upset anyone. The heat was terrible and the team has a whole new dynamic, so despite it all, we did not bad. I was really happy for Michael to get a goal, it was killing sky sports news to have to say, owen scored on debut the winner, fantastic, :-D. I think Berba will do great this season, without ronaldo, he will really shine, you watch.

in other news, was so delighted city lost, pirates who? hehe

great start for owen! cant wait to see him top the scoring charts again

on another not tho! did anyone see Man City got easily beaten! HAHAHA

i see it slightly different...

given Owen's injury history & age, i see that fergie's best option is to make owen a supersub, just like larsson and solksjaer, provided berbatov do well in what he is supposed to do

given Owen's injury history & age,

i stopped reading there, cause that is the most ridiculous thing I have read. the bloke is only 29. hardly old when you look at giggs and scholes.

He's lost is oomph, he used to breeze past players but now he hesitates & is sometimes scared to take players on.
Saying that if United cant bring his fitness & his oomph back I don't think anyone will.

just because he has lost some pace doesnt mean he cannot do it any longer. centre forwards like owen create their own chances and can do this in a split second as long as he can get into the positions to score goals then thats all that matters.
No player is scared to take other players on, he is a professional for god sake, thats like saying a rugby player is scared of taking a hit.
