Ferrari must be gutted!!

Seven-times Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher will come out of retirement to race for Mercedes next year, BBC Sport understands.

The German, who will be 41 on 3 January, has signed a contract and the deal will be announced imminently.

Schumacher will partner compatriot Nico Rosberg in the team that won the drivers' and constructors' titles in 2009 in its former guise as Brawn.

you need to realise this isn't confirmed yet, it is just reported by a german newpaper, nothing official. Hope it turns out to be true though, a german f1 team (mercedes, schui, rosberg) verses a british one, (McLaren, hamilton, button) its gonna be cooooooool. potentially now 4 teams competing for the championship. McLaren, Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull:-D

Ferrari have released him but im gonna wait until Mercedes announce it until i get really excited. too many people wanting headlines. I think Ferrari still have a better line up alonso/massa combo better than shumi/rosberg.

I'm really pleased for him, money must have been short. I'm really happy an up and coming driver has lost the chance to race so he can come back. Why don't we keep all old drivers who had their time and keep everyone else out of F1? Just think, If we had done that some years ago we could of kept Hamilton and Button out.

Supposed to be a Mercedes press conference at 10:30am - expecting it to be broadcast on Radio 5

braWn BRAWN BRAWN!

You are half right, Yes in the '09 season, Honda was bought by Ross BRAWN. And re-named Brawn GP. Brawn was sponsered by Virgin. In the 2010 season, Brawn was bought by Mercedes and now Mercedes is sponsered by Petronas. And now Virgin has moved to Manor. See below....

2010 Season

Virgin Racing, headed by F3 owner John Booth and former team owner Nick Wirth was an unknown entrant until the FIA published the 2010 entry list on 12 June 2009. The team was originally entered as Manor Grand Prix prior to Virgin's investment.

Branson / Virgin sponsored Brawn last season, but Virgin has a full stake in what was Manor GP

Mercedes bought the stake in Brawn, which was Honda..

No! Brawn was Honda and is now Mercedes. Mercedes bought a majority share but the race management structure stays the same.

EDIT: It would appear I was beaten to it!

some great driver lineups at the top teams next year, i think ferrari and mclaren will have the edge over redbull and mercedes, primarilly mclaren, since they and ferrari started developing next years car earlier than the other contenders, and mclaren were a fast team in the last 1/3rd of the season

Never was much of a fan of Kimi - he had his good moments, but his performances of late had been lacklustre. Rally is welcomed to him.

As for MS coming back - very excited. 2010 is something to look forward to now  Just a shame Alonso is at Ferrari!

i stand corrected on my typo's lol brawn not ( braun thats the toothbrush lol )

i must mis-read, the virgin bit, i thought they had bought brawn, they are only the sponsor.

ms @ 41 hes getting on a bit, he should still have the competitive edge, all german british teams will be intresting

I have a feeling that if the Ferrari is as good as the 2007/2008 car then Alonso is going to walk away with the title.

going be the best deal for the 2010 season

a snip at 6.5m - he will finish in the top 3

Mercedes are not in this to make the numbers up and Brawn + Schumacher = Success - 7 titles together

guess Top Gear will be on the look out for another Stig;-)

another England Vs Germany cliche

For god sake, will the Brits stop doing this England V Germany stuff - its boring!

Point 1). Mcclaren uses GERMAN engines to power the British Drivers ie; Hamilton and Button

Point 2). Brawn GP is a BRITISH based team who the German Drivers drive for ie: Schumi and Rosberg

So whats the battle between both nations? In my opinon both nations needs each other to race!

Three words to these "Brits" who go on about the war and 1966 - GET OVER IT

Anyway, Hamilton is about as British as the Queen is..... think about it if u r clever enough

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Mclarens
Ferraris
Red Bulls
Mercedes

All got top driver line ups and in theory should have good cars, have had a year to test them not too many drastic changes next year, larger fuel tanks no kers so should be very very interesting.

WOOP WOOP SCHUMINATOR!!!

hes gonna be an absolute animal

OMG
HAMILTON VS SCHUMI woop woop

Alonso one of the best drivers in the paddock in what should be an awesome car next year, massa schumis apprentice, button riding high off his world title, red bull riding high off there good performance this year but will be ready for the fight

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP

im excited!! lol

OMG imagine if he won an 8th title

Didnt get my point, Mclaren might be a BRITISH team, but they still use GERMAN engines. And Brawn (now Mercedes) still have alot of BRITISH mechanics working for a GERMAN team. Hence schumi is as i speak in Bracknay (in BRITAIN) signing the contract and not in GERMANY signing it.
So as mentioned, both Nations are work with each other and not having a silly WW2 or 1966 debate.

theres not really national rivalries in F1 and a lot of teams are based outta the UK but I guess if your going on a team name basis then it wouldbe England vs Germany combine with the driver line ups. I just cant wait for the new season, chillaxing watching the qualy and the race and also free practices with the BBC coverage woop woop

the only thing missing from this amazing line up is Sato who wudda caused at least 40 crashes and possibly a few fatalities....

Kobayashi signed for Sauber.

He was reckless in Brazil he will be the new Sato lmao
