Former boxer Michael Watson and his carer have been treated in hospital after being "sprayed in the face" by attempted robbers and "dragged" from the car they were travelling in.

Watson was travelling through Essex in a Volkswagen Golf with his carer Lennard Ballack on Thursday when two would-be car thieves slammed into the back of their vehicle, sprayed them both in the face with a "noxious substance" and dragged the former world title challenger from his seat.

Ballack and Watson were both taken to hospital after the attack and were released on Saturday.

Was the make & model of the car important information to include within the news report?

Michael Watson is one of those British treasures that we should cherish.

What he's been through.

I really hope someone finds the ***** & tortures them. I have little faith in the justice system adequately punishing them when they are found, tried & given pathetic sentences

Wish them both the best

Otherwise people might think he was travelling in a top of the line Merc (and may therefore be more likely to be carrying some valubles etc) and this might have been why they were targeted

Cant help thinking there is more to this than meets the eye, car jackings are normally high end vehicles i would think and don't normally involve ramming the target car, i reckon Watson was targeted for some reason, doesn't seem likely to be a random attack imho.

Hope they catch the people who did this :(

Volkswagen is only a "people's automobile" in Germany.

Rather than just being in Essex?

Hey now...calm down on the Golfs....i drive one a pretty old one mind you....hugely expensive to insurance as highly nickable according to the insurer. We are digressing.
Callous no gooders targetting innocent people.
For what???? A bit of street cred maybe while others are left traumatised and picking up the pieces. How dare they?
Yes chances are they may not get caught, if they do....a slap on the wrist maybe....our justice system is rubbish!!!
