How easy is it to learn?

Looking into a new position and they advise you need a basic knowledge of Access & Excel.

Excel I have no problem with (use it all the time), but never had a play with Access.

Easy? Going to take some time?

Pretty easy.

My job was advertised with a similar spec for access/excel. Sometimes i have to link sets of data together and compile mailing lists etc, it was complicated at first but i soon got used to it

I wish I could say that, I hated SQL and databases relationships took awhile to get my head round the SQL though.

Personally I hate MS based SQL and think that really all SQL is much better on ORACLE

Access has some very odd bits of standard SQL missing or with randomly different syntax which is a PITA, but I've found full blown MsSQL to be miles better, plus the query designer in MSSQL SMS is a absolute joy compared to the one in Access!

As for the OP, Access is easy to learn, difficult to master.

If you can learn SQL and get good at it you can earn a stack, my mate used to be on 100K a year in London. . .
