A trusted source working as a customer service rep for Microsoft has revealed that there will be some bad drama when the Xbox 360's Fall update hits on November 19th. He says the update could bring the dreaded "three red lights of death" issue roaring back to life.

The rep said that there has always been an influx of calls from owners of bricked Xbox 360s after every major Xbox 360 software update. Most of the complaints come from owners of launch consoles.

"The slick move by Microsoft here is that it's releasing the update on the 19th, just a couple of days after the extended warranty period for launch Xbox 360s end. The owners of these units are headed for some pretty tense times in the weeks to come,"" he said.

ive got a red rings xbox still sittin under my bed lol.had to buy a new 1 n got the cooler as well. but my red ring one i only got last year near xmas aint been a year n it went but i have the box with serial number cud it get fixed by microsoft?

yea, 3 years from your manufacture date for the 3 rings, check the consoles manufacture date then give them a call. should be free pick up, free delivery and will take about 2weeks

Three red rings means the cooler over the graphics and or processor chip is loose or not or not functioning correctly. Hardly likely that a software update would cause it.

Yer i heard thtas why its been delayed quite a bit because of it killing 360 but i believe the problem has been fixed

my xbox is currently in germany getting fixed so if the update kills it again i will just say they didnt fix it properly :thumbsup:

They often send refurb's instead, "To speed things up".

Yes they transfer the serial number over for you automatically, Not physically but your online registered serial number.

I assume they send you an identical version, I actually sent my brothers for him and it was one of the early 360's

I've got a fairly new 360 and the power pack is slightly different, Mine won't fit in his.

You can tell their used though as the case on the refurb one is a little loose, Can't be bothered sending it back again as it works fine and probably end up getting knocked around a bit anyway...!!!.

No, they don´t transfer the serial number over.
You get a different console when it´s a refurb, with a different serial number.
They however do transfer the licences of your DLC so it works with the new console even offline
like it did on your broken console.

Yeah, would be nice if they always sent "new" consoles out...
But if they have enough time to fix the console (and of course if it IS fixable)
then they repair your broken one.

I sent mine on wednesday from Nottingham, and they got it Monday and sent me a new or fixed one back on monday, It is with UPS atm and apparently UOS are saying it will be with me on thursday so 6 working days is not bad. I sent a premium so I better get one back with a silver tray.... do you still get a free month of live?

6 days is good... last time i sent mine i had to wait 3 weeks...got a free month of live when i recieved it back

cant believe it my 6yos 360 got the red rings last night!! this is the second time it has had this, last time was over a year ago, the problem is it is his birthdsay on 30th and we have gone a brought him a load of games!! :x hope i get it back in time or i wont have a happy son on his birthday with games he cant play!!

New console does not mean you get HDMI.

I've been having some ding dongs with MS over my refurb ones being faulty, and I was then shipped a brand spanker (manufactured in Sept 2008).

No HDMI. Just a standard Premium, as it was before.

Some people get "old" consoles without HDMI back and others get brandnew ones with HDMI
Always depends on what they have in stock at the moment

Fact is though that they haven´t been producing consoles without HDMI for people to buy for quite some
time so I assume that what you got is something that only gets used to send
out as replacement. Probably so they can use up the parts they have left from
times when there were no HDMI consoles.
