Excellent news for MS (and gamers in general) as all consoles sold in November and December are more than the rest of the year combined.

Not sure if it is arrogance on Sony's part to just stand by and watch or whether the genuinely thought they were unstoppable.

if this replicates in Dec, Sony's lead in the US will be largely eradicated

Sony have been dominating sales for the past year, microsoft finally win a month ( bearing in mind it was black friday month with ridiculously low xbone prices ) and it becomes news lol.
This isnt me hating in the xbone. I own both consoles but think the ps4 is clearly superior

PS4 895.4 (red)
XB1 1282.6 (green)

Not surprising considering the amount they were knocking off on black Friday. Sony didn't seem to really bother as much with it.

sold to customers.... NeoGaf went into meltdown (very Sony bias largest gaming forum) this was not just a small victory, it was massive, esp at Xmas

How come the Sony PS4 advert on TV states it's the best selling console in the UK.? lol.

it is because it is exactly what MS said it would do back in Oct.... it said in a twitter response to a Sony comment, that if you win Holiday period, you win the year, and it is that big... outstripping you opponent by 400k at the biggest sales time of the year is massive for MS.

how come Carlsberg claim they are the best lager? at the time of the advert they were the best selling console in the UK, clever marketing done before the sales figures

don't be so easily fooled

Trust me microsoft hasnt won the year, nor anything this generation. I think overall sales is what matters, not stealing one month in sales because you sold your product at rock bottom prices

it is about the numbers, not the monthly battles. if MS could win every holiday period like this and sony win the rest of the year, they would bite your hand off for that

I wonder who made the most profit?. Considering Microsoft had to slash their prices by so much to beat them.

no doubt, but should the question not be..."why did Sony not respond" why would a company with such positive mindset in the gaming world not want to keep commanding that lead..

Why does Amazon price match when they don't need to?

arguing that Sony lost because MS slashed their prices is short-sighted, as evidence backs up that the real profit comes when you have the user on your machine...games sales etc etc

in the harsh world of business MS took a massive hit financially to win back gamers, but they can afford to.... MS played their Ace card...they are about a billion times more richer than Sony (who are in deep **** financially) MS simply played to that strength

Maybe Sony didn't respond because it doesn't need to? the majority deem them to have the better console so why slash your prices to beat Microsoft for one more month?

Also parents at Christmas are obviously going to go for the cheapest option.

nooooo, they lost the holiday sales... the industry's biggest time of the year, the 2 months that define your product... the time of year they all sit in the boardroom waiting for....

it is simply not about losing the previous 9 months, it is about winning when it really matters!!

do you think a runner who leads for 10 laps the loses on the last lap feels vindicated? of course not, as he lost when it mattered

I have a ps4 and was tempted to get a Xbox One but they seem to put a lot of their exclusives games out on PC so I deemed it as waste of money. Maybe Fable will change my mind.

that sir is the 1 million dollar question, maybe Sony did not respond because they can't? Sony simply can not sell the PS4 at a loss (we know that) MS can.... unless Sony tell us why (never going to happen) then it is all conjecture...

many on Neogaf feel Sony is relying on 2015 as they on paper at the moment have a stronger games line up

many experts believe they will win Xmas as well by about 200k (they tend not to be far off) as the price point is still there for MS and not for Sony...

it is what happens in Jan that is now being discussed as does MS put their price back up? but the general consensus is Xmas is lost as far as Sony is concerned
2 Likes #28
Think what you have to think about is that most of the xbox sales probably came from already ps4 owners....

I still didn't bite at that price point myself as there's just nothing I want on that machine.

I won't argue with th numbers. Tbh I'd like to see how many people play what game online to show the real console usage rather than just sales
#29
400k is just a pebble in a big pond, but MS selling 2M this time last year in 18 days speaks for itself really, Sony will eventually have to come up with another strategy if they wish to have a foot in this side of the gaming industry.

we are going round in circles on this, no one knows why... all my argument is...Sony is in terrible debt. MS are cash rich, they can afford to slash price, Sony can not (we know that is factually true, whether it is the reason or not is conjecture)

but, businesses (retail) are all about the xmas period we know this...MS stated in Oct it was going to win the xmas period due to it being the most important time of the year for companies... they did that, they were true to their word, the reasons Sony felt they did not need to we will probably never be known, it may of been that they felt it could not be won and the battles lie further ahead

Yes but as i said, Sony havent lost, its like they went 10-0 up in a football match, Sony vs microsoft, sont concede a goal in the last minute and microsoft celebrate victory. The xbox one has lost. Sony have the best selling product in overall sales, as I said im not being bias, I own both consoles, the ps4 takes the win everytime, I bought my xbox one because it was dirt cheap and its beasically my glorified blu ray player lol

it is global mate, null and void... NPD sales are North America and UK, whilst I get what you are doing, there is a reason everyone wants to win the US specifically, by far the biggest market... I am not saying it is not important, but this is about the NPD sales not global sales (as daft as that may sound) the US tend to be very insular and it is all about what happens in their country that is why the big debate

I was going to say, i read somewhere that PS4 stormed ahead of MB1, largely due to ms marketing their console as entertainment uint instead of a games console..
Had previous xboxs and loved them, but when i move to next gen i think will likely go for the PS to try something different..

I agree, and if someone pushed me for a reason Sony were 'happy' for MS to take Xmas is the fact the Sony's first 9 months of next year looks very strong exclusive wise and MS was all weighted to this Xmas, could of been a deliberate ploy
