you are gaining some life experience etc and even though its rubbish wages you are on the right road and am sure your parents are very happy you are working

My friends daughter is also 17 and wont get off her fat backside to work as keeps saying the money is rotten. That sort of attitude drives me mad

I thought it was £3.40 for 16/17 year olds?

Wow... £3.75 an hour? That is POOR! Excuse the pun! I didn't even know you could get away with paying someone that! But at least you're working I guess! Maybe time to consider a new job... I worked the summer holidays between AS and A levels (so when I was 17) and I was on £8.60/hr?

Well first I worked for Virgin Mobile (think that was £7.50/hr) but that was when I was 16, then for the police at 17 on £8.60. You need a new job!!!

Yeah but really £3.40 or whatever, is it even worth bothering with?

well hes to young to sign on so aye id say so matey

also being in a job makes it easier to move to another than those who have lived off dole money for years

OP, maybe try get on the new deal program? not sure if your to young?

even go to college learn new skills, brush up on your english and so on.

the longer someone is outta work the harder to get back in

another poster getting rep from me.

It doesnt matter where u work - its the fact u are willing to go out and earn a living from a young age. You must have friends who have been brought up and trained in the benefits system. You keep on working as you know u wont be working in macdonalds forever

i worked in asda for 5 years full time from turning 16 (stayed at skool to 18)

never studied for an exam nothing

left school with higher business C

now in second year on uni at hnd after getting an A for hnc.

i worked 60 hour a week, until i thought na ill never earn much doing this for life, it was the kick up the bum i needed.

know what? ive went to college n dropped my hours to 22 a week.

i only earn 100 quid less a month!

with mcdees you probs be shift runner 3 days into the job....

places like supermarkets, show an interest, a willingness to foward yourself and they will put you on programmes.

do the training n then up stix, jump ship and run to a better paid job :-D

as do a grow programme

anyone gets on it im sure

they give you all skills you need, well not give but train you.

while there you can even get the chance to get forklift trained, first aid trained, fire warden trained and so on

all things that will add to your cv and job credibility
