A poor 50inch panasonic tv for less than £400 is a waste of £400 though.

Having a large TV size with not so good resolution, really makes the picture not look so good from when you are sitting near the tv.

Plasma TVs give you Space AIDS and 1080p is all the gold at the end of the rainbow.

if you know anything about TVs, disregard this!

£400 for a TV that is only 720p is not a bargain in my book. If it had been Full HD then it would be a good buy but this was average with poor specs.

Full HD is only useful if you HAVE something that outputs at FULL HD, like a PS3 or blu ray player.

£400 for a 720p 50" tv is very good.

why are people obsessed with 1920x1080?

NORMAL TV isnt in HI DEF
SKY and VIRGIN MEDIA HD ARENT IN 1080p!!!

i meant disregard my own jokes about the myths about plasma and 1080p

if you know anything about TVs and resolution you'll know that to benefit from a 1920x1080 res, you'll need a blu ray player, PS3 or be using it as a PC monitor.

for people without any HD devices or the desire to upgrade, a 720p TV is fine, a 1080p tv will not always offer them a better picture, as standard def will be upscaled and it depends on the quality of the processing chip in the TV to accomplish this.

cheap 1080p LCDs are all the rage and very often disappointly bad quality with bad black levels due to light bleed and terrible picture when viewed offset to the screen

theres these huge myths about plasma screens which are starting to dispell a bit now but some people won't even entertain the notion of one becuase their mate knows someone who once had a plasma and it needed the gas refilling

so my crap attempt at a little humour was just highlighting the fact that 1080p is overhyped and misunderstood and so are the myths about plasma tvs.

it certainly wasnt a pop at you directly. apologies for any confusion caused

oh right, no worries. :-D

also what I have bolded, also applies to HDready TV's as well. As I have a 46'' 1080i and well the contrast ratios on it are not very high at all and this effects the image quailty.

And about plamas TV I have been told they are no good for gaming, as they tend to leave a ghost image on the screen if you have a certain area on the screen that has not changed for a while.
