Check out if your bank offers a gold account or something like that which you pay monthly for but get free mobile insurance, travel insurance, aa breakdown etc, I do that with Lloyds and have great cover for a decent price.

Have a look at Lloyds, Barclays and HSBC and do some oline comparrisons, I think Lloyds also offer a silver account which offers frebie mobile insurance. But have a look online and topcashback as some of the banks offer current account cashback, and there's nothing stopping you from having more than one current account so you could always keep your student one and have the other at the same time. Especially good if you need travel insurance and AA cover as well, some other benefits too but I can't remember them.

That article quoted looks seriously old?!
To be honest, I think most places have tons of get out clauses!
I got insurance recently.... mainly for peace of mind as I know there's little chance of it happening. Whoever you go with, make sure you read the T&Cs THOROUGHLY!
I recently got my insurance from insureandgo for gadgets.... 40 quid for the year for an iphone 4 16gb which i thought was really good! having read through the T&Cs, I don't think the terms have that many get outs..... nothing that o2 insurance for instance wouldn't. check them out....
