I noticed 3 is now advertising mobile internet powered by yahoo and msn , does anyone know if that means you can now go to any website rather than just certain ones as used to be the case with the walled garden?

Im looking for a good deal including mobile web and msn messanger / agile messenger use as data charges are most of my vodafone bill however 3's website isnt very clear as to whats included and what isnt or as to whether any site access is included

Any info gratefully recieved

I'm on 3, and it's not clear to me either lol. Problem i have, is i am still using my Motorola A1000 and MSN is not supported on that, so i use eMessenger. When i've used Yahoo for searching, it is not a full blown web access by any means, but not sure if any network offers full net access.

Let me know what sites you're interested in, and i'll try them....does that help? I'll need full url's though

Thanks

I use agile messenger to get logged on to msn on my vodafone and it works just like msn does on a pc but i dont know if the msn messanger 3 advertises is like that or if its like a text message as it says the "free" part is limited to 200 messages a day but with agile its a seperate window just like a pc and u can see the line by line chat

Same with the yahoo bit , i can just type any url in and go to it with voda and search with google etc but i do recall people with 3 saying in the past you cant go outside of sites they want you to access which was basically their own portal, i tried orange briefly and they put orange world on the phones which means u cant go anywhere without going via orange world and they even disabled the bookmarks on the phone to make u go via that so it didnt work well either......

Im swaying towards o2 as they rarely block anything but the 3 tariffs look good

This is what the service is advertised as on my mobile:

"Internet powered by Yahoo! combines our Mobile Web Sites service with full internet access powered by yahoo! Browse over 450 top web sites designed for mobile users, or use Yahoo! Search to find whatever you need from the rest of the web."

'3' have recently added a number of sites (100's of sites) to the internet service but there are still limitations on certain sites depending on your handset, I have got an LG handset and can access Yahoo mail but I can't access '3' Mobile Mail. This is advertised as "almost instant access to popular email services. Mobile Mail and Mobile Office are available on the following mobiles:

Nokia 6630, 6680, N70, N80 and E61

You will find that the latest Nokia handsets have the latest browsing software with hardly any limitations including MSN messenger - this has just recently been added but my handset doesn't support this. '3' customer services should know what handsets are supported, I imagine all the Nokia handsets listed support MSN.

Internet powered by Yahoo is split into different categories:

News & Weather - there is over 50 different sites listed in this category alone!
Entertainment
Shopping & Lifestyle
Football Team News
Sport
Look-up-stuff
Travel
Technology & Finance

Each category has loads of individual sites, alot of them have been designed for mobile devices. The Yahoo search homepage includes Images, Products and web.

I've just done a quick search and entered Sheffield Wednesday into the web search and I'm now on the Sheffield Wednesday homepage! I have just clicked on info about the page I get this message - "Yahoo has adapted this page for your mobile browser. This may change the layout, remove images or reduce functionality. Some pages will not work at all on a mobile browser." So there are some limitations, on this particular site the browsing was quite limited but again I think this is due to my handset. Like I mentioned earlier in the post, Nokia handsets are more suited to this service.

Hope this helps.

Scott
