before I buy a car charger for my mobile just thought i'd ask quick if I can use the computer transfer lead and a cigarette plug to usb adapter instead?

as I notice when transfering stuff from phone to pc my phone also takes charge from my laptop?

its a sony erricson W995 should that make any difference, thanks in advance :)

I'm fairly sure my Samsung U600 data cable did exactly that. I think as long as the transfer lead charges then a cigarette plug to usb adapter would work just fine.

I was more concerned that its not going to fry my phone!

I bought a Swiss Travel charger with a USB adapter on it, the output is 5AH (500mA) & I've used it to charge a GBA SP which on the original GBA SP plug states output as 320mA, on the other side I use the same Swiss Travel charger to charge a PSP which the original plug gives out 2000mA.

When I queried it with someone they advised me that the output just determines how fast or slow it will charge, so the GBASP will charge faster on the USB than it's original cable & the PSP will charge slower on the USB than it's original cable.

I've just had a Cigarette Lighter USB bought for me for my iPhone & it's 1000mA - on the packaging it states "Quick-charge USB port for fastest possible charge" so I assume what I was told above was correct.

If the cigarette lighter USB is a 500mA output then I believe that's what laptop USB ports charge at so if it's fine on your laptop then the cigarette lighter USB charger should be no different.
