mobile phone upgrade advice

Morning all, I am due for my handset upgrade today. I am on o2 paying £19/month contract. I am wanting the new o2 cocoon phone but I am pretty sure they will probably try and charge me for it.

Is there any tactics that people have used to get what they want without having to pay for it, i.e. telling them to cancel the contract etc etc

All help will be most appreciated!

Do you use NGN numbers (0845/0844/0870)?

Do you want more mins or sms?

Would you be happy with an 18month contract?

Are you at all interested in the bethere llu internet broadband service, likely to be subdised by O2 Contracts come Q4 07?

Threaten to leave O2 and mean it!

If you are lucky you'll get that handset free (or possibly for £40 or £80 if ur unlucky) with ur tariff reduced to £15/month (not cheaper unless you want more value by going for higher tariff)

if they do not offer you a deal you want you need to mention the 16month free rental contracts on Orange from resellers.

What exactly is the tariff you are on?

Also what is the value of that phone since i have not heard of it..

I am on O2 500/100 for £15/month on a N80 i got last year, thats up for renewal soon too, but I'm waiting for the bethere service combo/bundle offers to appear 1st which will happen in October.

You need to telephone the o2 retentions department, as they offer the best deals.

Try these numbers:

0800 0288151
0870 600 7102

Yep, i was going to use the old cancel my contract talk so hopefully that will work.

Not sure what my tariff is called but I get 75mins and 300 texts a month.
Here is the phone I am after

Yup, I went to the o2 store last week to take a look. Very novel idea to have a dock for a phone. :)

You really find 75mins enough?

Try and get onto their new tariffs, @ £15 or £20/month with more txts and few more mins if poss I would suggest and see what deal they offer you.

As I said, ring the retentions department.

As duck says retentions, which you can get calling CS and going through the menu options, but thats alot faster...

ALICOM if you don't use NGNs, you need to get off that tariff asap and ask for a 800mins/100sms tariff or simliar if ur voice heavy like me.

You should be able to get that for £20-£25/month with a free mid range phone, or high end one if ur lucky.

slightly off topic...

If you're with O2, and your contract is coming to an end, but can't find a new handset that you like (or you have , but it's not out yet - Sony Ericsson k850i !!) then go onto the simplicity tarrifs- basically 30 rolling contract, no new handset - for £15 a month I get 200 mins and 200 texts, and when the k850 comes out I can upgrade!
seemed a great idea to me - oh and there's also the o2 treats which top up your minutes or texts aswell!!!

I suspect I wouldn't get such a good deal doing that although i'll be happy to be proved wrong.

Ideally I'd want the N82 but thats not out until 2008 I think, I'm probably going to settle for 6500 Classic

I had a stonking retention deal the last time with O2, but a month or so ago when it came to upgrade they offered me feck all as my previous deal was 'unsustainable' in their words!

So much for reducing customer churn and meeting targets!

Naturally I left and got a good deal with t-mobile.

Upgrades are a pain in the ****, im out of contract with Vodafone, (signed for 18, its now 21 months) and they want me to pay £270 for an N95

I'm up for renewal too, and after getting through to the retentions department here was what they offered:

18 months
£30/month 500 mins 400 text plan
Free Nokia 6300

But £15 off for the first 12 months. So if you average it out it becomes £20/month for 500 mins and 400 texts.

What I'm looking for is more like the simplicity deal (200 mins 200 text) but cheaper... lets say around £10... anyone know if that's possible to get?
