neither can i the microsoft guy claimed they would but i assumed he was talking b/s but assumed i might as well check before?

Can they even tell you've done it? and even if they can, I agree with souljacker - I doubt they would ban you for it. It's not as big a problem as modding the console to play backups - that's where they lose the biggest revenue stream.

Thats what i assume but they do make a fair bit money from hardware so thought it best to check as i assumed many people wouldhave done the upgrade after the thread on it?

They could check, and did ban a load of people for using the 12v mod.

So i'd assume they could see the mod, whether they'd ban people for using it is another thing though

Already done this to mine and have the new update, no ban so you will be fine,

can't go wrong for getting 120gb for £35 :D

Also doubt they will know as well if you are copying the correct firmware over as well.

why ban people for the 12v mod isnt it just fixing xbox mess ups in releasing a bad console

Have you got a link to where you bought the HDD and maybe the tutorial for installing etc?

Well the firware on your current 20gb will be no good, you could format the 120gb put the firmware ontot it, but the disk will only show 20gb, so you need to get a firware version from a 120gb hard disk, i got mine from the net, just do a google search, there are loads.

The hard disk you need is a Western Digital WD1200BEVS 120GB, there are two versions of it but it is ok with you get either.

Excellent thanks. I'll google around and decide whether I'm capable of doing the upgrade

Rep added

EDIT: Actually at that price I don't think it's worth the bother. £38.82. Can just sell the 20GB drive and buy an official 120GB for not much more. but thanks anyway.

I have the Hard-disc its a WD1200BEVS but isnt there a secondary check on model i need? also what websites have the guides?

Thanks

reading i think i have the wrong version its an EVS?

Nothing to do with firmware it's the fact that you're copying another drive's serial number so yes in all likelihood they can ban you.

See as i know it they wont know its wrong and its not another drives serial so as of now the change will just show as an upgrade wtih a genuine drive

By firmware he means Security Sector which contains the unique information assigned to one drive only, this is what you need.
