My mate was asked to take voluntary redundancy from the mod about 2months ago. Major cut backs.
He was pondering on wither to take it or not. I asked him what was the package they were offering for voluntary redundancy and he said £28k. No need to ask what I said to him.
He is now in another job with less stress and less hours and on just slightly less pay than he was originally on.

Most people don't know they are entitled to these things it should be said. If he visits a base that does have these facilities he is entitled to use them. Though i would assume fastlane is big enough to have their own if they have a garrison or soldier\navy quarters near by. I have 2 garrisons at my base. Also he should be getting 30 days holiday if he's worked there 5yrs, plus all the public\queen holidays on top. I've had 2 days off sick in 7.5yrs.

Yes, but he's working for Sky now and gets free Sky HD in his house with all the channels including movies pack and sports pack (£84.25) (includin ESPN), free sky broadband unlimited (£10) and free sky talk unlimited (£5)and free multi room.
Total Package per month = £99.25.
Oh and forgot to mention free installation for the lot.
He's got a good pension scheme with them and only works 3 days a week therefore can arrange shifts to suit him if he's planning a long weekend as with the mod he had to take the holidays.
But I'd much rather have the free gym, tennis and swimming pool.:whistling:

I worked in Faslane for 2 years and the only people allowed access to the gym were the navy personnel.
Us civvies only got a game of five a side and thats only when we played against the squaddies

I can't be the only one who thinks this is a good thing in some ways?

Reduce the budget on defence and redirect it to education. That is surely where we should be investing this nation's capital?

Maybe increased education would reduce the need for such investment in 'defence'.

Nope i totally agree with it. But they aren't reducing the defence budget they are just stopping all the staff behind the scenes from earning mega amounts of money. I'll happily admit people have been taking the **** out of the system and its been doing my head in for so long. I'll bet this is only a temporary measure though which is poor.

agree with the 'defence' budget, or withdrawing troops, and redirecting the over exerted finances back into the british economy, namely education ?

Neither he said "am i the only one that sees this as a good thing in some ways". Agree with that bit. Don't think front line troops should suffer but do believe renewing our nuclear subs is a joke and goes against everything the government has said it wants to do with other nations.

And don't believe what they are spouting about iran. Iraq was a lie. Too many people make money out of war. With money comes corruption.

the government spend less on defence than education if i remember correctly from my economics last semester the UK economy genrates roughly £1455 billion per year of which about 47 billion (i think, will check lecture notes if anyone really cares) was spent on defence cant remember the education number but it was more

At least schools get the right equipment..........

But then I do think we should just not have a military and have to contract other forces to protect us at a higher cost? Once again the anti-war people blame it on the military and not on the politics. Maybe it should be Government that make cutbacks on themselves and not others?

I think the "Offense" budget has had enough cuts under Labour already, time to get off the right wing me thinks.
