Modded 360 advice..

Hi, Let me first just say I have a legit 360 and have spent well over £1000 on games etc last year alone. And intend to continue buying just as many

So. Im contemplating buying a modded 360 so I can play some of the games I otherwise wouldnt buy, just the shovelware things that dont get good reviews etc.

I understand how easy it is to get games, and Im not going to have any difficulty with that, but what I dont know about is the process of getting them off my hdd and onto the 360. Ive been hearing about some stealthing thing (??) and kreon.. Im totally clueless. Also do I need a dual layer dvd burner and therefore, expensive dual layer dvds?

tl; dr: I want to get a modded 360. What do I need to know.

Many thanks, Ill leave rep to helpful replies

You need dual layer dvds - i think.

I also think that stealth games mean its harder for MS to find out your console is chipped?

But people will know more than me

    £1000 on games!!! Christ!

I believe its just the modded console that gets banned, Not the live account. I still intend to buy the big titles on my legit console like I say so being banned on the spare console shouldnt really matter.

get yourself a second console for your chipped games and a second account for live incase it gets banned anyone who spends that sort of money can afford to do this

Go to 360mods.net and get the guide and have a read, I actually flashed my xbox 360 myself and burnt quite a few back-ups, feel free to ask questions.

Thats not too much of an issue, Ill be wanting to use my 1 account for gamerscore etc and communicating with friends. And playing my second box offline wont be an issue.

I mainly need help and advice on the whole burning, playing games front; I dont intend to flash the 360 myself

Get Aone or Verbatim DVD+R DL discs and burn with Imgburn at 2.4x speed, use the .dvd as the source otherwise you need to set the layer break manually, also remember to change book type to DVD-ROM, that's it!

Use xdvdmulleter and/or abgx360 on the ISO to check.

You do not need to do that if you are not using it on LIVE (based on using xbc and say a 163a/b 162c/162d samsung rom with kreon firmware to backup your games) I should imagine games from other sources will have had everything ripped correctly) but if no xbox live is involved no need

And stay clear of aone (ricoh) any dye that Aone use stay clear of them(cmc/ ritek) and only buy Verbatim 2.4x made in Singapore MKM-001-00 disc's and burn @2.4x unless your using a Samsung 203b and use 4x other sammy writers after the 203 like the 202 series might also need to use 4x on these disc's to get better results or even for them to burn.

MKM-003-00 (which are 8x) are decent as well but just not as compatible(no write strategy and the generic one is flawwed) with older writers

DO NOT buy Dual Layer Minus as you cannot use them for your 360 games, you cannot specify where you place the Layerbreak and so they are also useless to even be used for Video

As mentioned above use ImgBurn and choose the .dvd file which contains layerbreak/ iso name info and do not alter ImgBurn setting to user specified layerbreak leave it on calculate optimal.

Make sure you leave verify option ticked in ImgBurn and let it verify the dvd/data can be read.

Book type must be set to DVD-ROM no matter what burner you have.

Pioneer drives for a long time now have Automatically set to DVD-ROM on dual layer.

In ImgBurn under tools / settings and write tab make sure auto change book type is ticked to cover Lg / Liteon / Optiarc / Samsung writers.

Checking old game rips is very important, many will fail basic checks but not an issue if you're only downloading new releases.

I had to repair one or two old games myself otherwise they wouldn't even play which would be a waste of a disc.

Very good advice. A couple of comments from me......

The ONLY dual layers that have worked for me have been the Verbatims, if you do want to try cheaper ones go ahead, and good luck, for some people they are fine, for whatever reason some people, like me, just cant use anything but the best.

As far as the Verbs go I have no problems with the ones made in India, but the perceived wisdom is that Singapore ones are better, so if you can get those, but if not the Indian ones may be fine.

Stealth checking is easy, just get the apps mentioned previously, agbx and Mulleter.

A final thing to be wary of is that some of the newer 360's are much harder to flash, so be aware that you may get charged a lot more if you have one with the newer dvd drives. New firmware is out for these, but I've no idea if that makes them as easy to do as the older drives, I suspect not. No idea myself how to check which drive you have, the lad who did mine had to take it to bits before he could tell me if he could flash it.
